March 2018 marks the second annual UNF Sex Week. UNF Sex Week is a week-long series of events that feature a sex-positive message designed to educate the campus community on a wide variety of topics including, but not limited to: health and wellness, relationships and intimacy, identity, gender, and orientation, safety, risk awareness, and consent.
This year’s theme is InterSEXionality, through which we seek to promote an interdisciplinary approach to sexual health and sexuality, which centers diverse and inclusive scholarly, scientific, and lived-experience viewpoints. It is our goal to examine the ways that sexual health and sexuality intersect with other identities and experiences. As part of this effort, we will be expanding our programming to include a Research and Resources Showcase.
The Sex Week Research & Resources Showcase is a poster presentation and resource tabling session that will take place in the Student Union from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2018.
Students, faculty and staff are invited to showcase their work. We invite presentations on topics including the following:
- sexual identity, gender, and orientation;
- sexual behavior and healthy relationships;
- sex and sexuality education;
- sexual health and wellness; and
- sexual safety and consent.
We also encourage presentations that explore the ways those topics intersect with other identities and experiences, including, but not limited, to:
- race, ethnicity, nationality, and cultural backgrounds;
- LGBTQIA+ Identity;
- socioeconomic status;
- religion and spirituality;
- science, computing, mathematics, and other technical fields;
- history, sociology, and culture;
- mental and emotional health; and
- body positivity, physical health, and wellness
Additionally, we welcome presentations that showcase departmental initiatives and programs, as well as resources available to UNF or the greater Jacksonville community.
Please note: Presentations should fit on a 3’ x 4’ poster. The Office of Undergraduate Research can provide assistance with poster printing.
To submit a proposal, please email Angel Kalafatis with the LGBT Resource Center at firstname.lastname@example.org. Your submission should indicate whether you are presenting a poster or requesting a table to showcase departmental resources. Poster submissions should include a title, authors, a 50 word abstract for our program, and a 250 word abstract describing the research or project you wish to present. The deadline for submissions is Friday, December 15, 2017.
