UNF's 6th Annual Interfaith Week was March 1-8, 2013. Thanks to the support of many UNF departments and the hard work of the Interfaith Center Staff and UNF students, Interfaith Week was a great success. We look forward to next year's 7th Annual Interfaith Week!

6th Annual Interfaith Week Events:
The purpose of Interfaith Week is to raise awareness about the diversity of ideological and religious frameworks in America and to provide opportunities for UNF students to engage in respectful dialogue with students from different backgrounds.
For this year's Interfaith Week, the Interfaith Center has some exciting stuff planned!!
Interfaith Week Kicks off with the national Bridging Cultures series, "Poetic Voices of the Muslim World." See below for details!
Below is the Schedule of Events:
Friday, March 1
Lend-A-Wing Service/Learning Project
- When: Friday, March 1, 2013 (9:30am-3:00pm)
- Where: Lend-A-Wing Pantry (Hicks Hall)
- Sponsors: UNF Interfaith Center, Volunteer Center, Lend-A-Wing Pantry, and Better Together @ UNF
- What: Come for the whole thing, an hour, two hours, whatever suits your schedule!! Orientation is at 9:30 and the service project will be followed by a reception and reflection time. Free Pizza for participants at 1:00. Free Breakfast during orientation at 9:30.
Saturday, March 2
Poetic Voices in the Muslim World: Blues and the Muslim Call to Prayer
- When: Saturday, March 2, 2013 (7:00-9:00pm)
- Where: University Center Grand Banquet Hall (free online tickets will be available)
- Sponsors: Jacksonville Public Library; UNF (including the UNF Interfaith Center and the Office of the President)
- What: Through images and recordings, award-winning historian Dr. Sylviane Diouf of the New York Public LIbrary's Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture illustratess how the Blues, which originated in the American South, may have evolved from the techniques of the recitation of the Qur'an and the call to prayer in West Africa. She plays early blues recordings side by side with African recordings of the call to prayer and invites audiences to catch the similarities.

Monday, March 4
Secular Students and Allies Luncheon with Chris Stedman*
- When: Monday, March 4 (11:30am-1:00pm)
- Where: Student Union West Room 3804
- What: This luncheon focuses on the theme of how Atheist and Humanist students and their clubs can create a sense of community and why it might be beneficial to collaborate with the Interfaith Center and/or Faith based clubs. All students (secular, religiou, affilliated, unaffiliated) are invited and encouraged to come. Free Lunch! Please RSVP!

LGBT Student & Allies Workshop with Chris Stedman
- When: Monday, March 4 (2:00pm-4:00pm)
- Where: Student Union Room 3804
- What: This workshop focuses on LGBT issues as raised in Chris Stedman's book Faitheist. Stedman will suggest why it might be beneficial for the LGVT Resource Center, Interfaith Center, and related clubs to collaborate. All students are welcome. Please RSVP!

Campus-Wide Keynote: Faitheist: How and Atheist Found Common Ground with the Religious and Post-conversation Reception and Book Signing
- When: Monday, March 4 (8:00pm)
- Where: Student Union Section D
- What: A Conversation with Chris Stedman where he will share stories from his personal journey with a focus on changes in his own ideological framework and sexual orientation and how he discovered the importance of Interfaith Cooperation. This even is open to the entire UNF community.

*Chris Stedman is the Assistant Humanist Chaplain at Harvard University. Chris writes for the Huffington Post and his memoir, "Faitheist" was recently published by Beacon Press.

Interfaith Dialogue Brunch: The Power of Story to Bridge Difference
- When: Tuesday, March 5 (11:00am-1:00pm)
- Where: Student Union West, Room 3804
- Sponsors: Interfaith Center, Intercultural Center for PEACE; LGBT Resource Center; A.S.I.A., and Better Together @ UNF
- What: UNF Students come for brunch to meet students of different faith and philosophical backgrounds. There will be a student panel and panellists will discuss religious discrimination and stereotypes. RSVP required!
"For the Bible Tells Me So" Documentary Screening and Panel, and Facilitated Dialogue

- When: Tuesday, March 5 7:00pm-10:00 pm
- Where: Student Union West, Auditorium
- Sponsors: Interfaith Center; LGBT Resource Center; Better Together @ UNF; UNF Pride
- What: "Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families -- including those of the former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson -- we discover how insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child. Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Rev. Jimmy Creech, "For the Bible tells me so" offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity." (www.forthebibletellsmeso.org)
Documentary screening will be followed by a planel discussion about the film.

Wednesday, March 6
Interfaith Youth Core* Workshops - the Power of Story to Bridge Difference
- 11:00am-1:00pm: The Challenge of Religious Diversity on UNF Campus Faculty and Staff Workshop
- What: This training session, open to all UNF faculty/staff, will build staff and faculty capacity to proactively and positvely engage around ideological framework (religious and secular) diversity on campus. Faculty and Staff are invited to bring their lunch and an open mind!
- Where: Student Union, Meeting Room 3806
- 2:00-3:00pm: Coffee and Conversation on Religious Diversity at UNF
- What: This informal meet and greet provides students with a relaxed forum with free coffee and priceless conversation with the Interfaith Youth Core trainer. The trainer will talk about IFYC and the role of college campuses in building interfaith cooperation. Free Coffee, snacks and conversation!
- Where: Women's Center Lounge, Founders Hall, Building 2, Suite 2100
- 8:00p-10:00p: The Power of Story to Bridge Difference: Student Workshop
- What: This session is open to ALL UNF students and will focus on the role of storytelling in relationship building in the context of Interfaith Cooperation. STudents will be given an opportunity to develop their own stories and to gain skills in relationships building across ideological difference. Free Taco Bar for participants! Please RSVP!

Campus 4 Community - Friday Prayer at the Mosque

- When: Friday, March 8 (1:00pm-8:00pm)
- Where: Islamic Center of Northeast Florida (free shuttle transportation from UNF)
- Sponsors: Interfaith Center; Better Together @ UNF; and Islamic Center of Northeast Florida
- What: Meet at the UNF Parking Circle behind the Student Union for a shuttle ride to the Islamic Center of Northeast Florida to observe Friday Prayer at the Mosque. Afterward, engage in a conversation with Islamic Center of Northeast Florida community members to ask questions and hear about their tradition. Pizza to follow at the Interfaith Center at UNF in Founders Hall, Building 2, Suite 2100. Please RSVP!
