UNF graduate Jennifer Barry’s life nearly ended when she was a teenager. In 1999, she suffered a traumatic injury and doctors told her she would never walk again. But she did walk across the stage last week to get her diploma from the University. WJXT Ch. 4 talked to Jennifer and her family about her big day.

Traffic accident investigators from around the world—as far away as Australia and Ireland—traveled to Jacksonville to take a course in crash investigation. The Institute of Police Technology and Management staged a training course April 25th that involved a simulated accident between a tractor-trailer and an SUV. IPTM Director Bob Jacob talked to WJXT Ch. 4 about this police training course.

UNF sophomore Grant Prather was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after he was born. At one time, he could barely walk a few steps without relying on an oxygen tank to make it through the day. Today, he runs races and has co-founded a non-profit organization, The Big Fun Foundation, to help sick children cope with their illness.

University of North Florida political science professor Dr. Matthew Corrigan and his students conducted a hurricane survey of Jacksonville residents. Of the 350 people surveyed, 64 percent believe Jacksonville will suffer a direct hit in the next five years.

A poll by the University of North Florida found that most Jacksonville residents expect a direct hit from a hurricane, but the majority of area residents are not prepared for the upcoming season, which begins June 1.

"Living Inside": Art in the Jail Program provides arts education to juveniles jailed as adults in the Duval County Jail. This program provides inmates with experience in various arts disciplines, while teaching and improving life skills. English Professor Mary Baron teaches a creative writing class in the jail and discussed this program on WJXT Ch. 4.
