The School of Nursing in the Brooks College of Health at the University of North Florida will offer a new distance learning course for nurses to earn their bachelor’s degree, providing the flexibility nurses may need to complete college.
Many nurses face barriers to returning to school, including family and work obligations, like night and weekend shifts, necessitating the need to find a program that fits their individual needs. UNF will begin offering an online format this summer to allow more registered nurses to take advantage of the superb education University nursing faculty offer in its current RN-BSN program.
“We are really excited to be able to offer our RN-BSN program in an online format. More nurses will be able to expand their nursing knowledge and complete their BSN in one year through distance learning that allows flexibility around work and family schedules,” said Dr. Debra Wagner, assistant professor in UNF’s School of Nursing and RN-BSN program director.
The distance learning course will be offered in a RN-designated cohort that allows registered nurses to complete the program in three semesters, which is approximately one year. Coursework will be totally online, although occasionally faculty may have students come to the UNF campus for assignments related to clinical activities. Students will be given adequate notice of those dates in order for them to make arrangements to be present.

The School of Nursing offers a wide variety of programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The program has a community-based, population-focused curriculum corresponding to changes in healthcare delivery trends. The curriculum helps students understand community environments as well as nurturing and building relationships with community agencies. In 2005, the School of Nursing was selected as the first flagship program at UNF.
UNF, a nationally ranked university located on an environmentally beautiful campus, offers students who are dedicated to enriching the lives of others the opportunity to build their own futures through a well-rounded education.
