The University of North Florida Women’s Center will observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a “Take Back the Night” event Tuesday, Oct. 4, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
This event will feature a march from UNF Osprey Crossing (Buildings Q-S) to Osprey Plaza at the Student Union, concluding with a candle-lighting ceremony and speak-out session. The event is free and open to the public.
“Take Back the Night” brings people together to stand in unity against interpersonal violence and abuse in their community. The cross-campus march represents the solidarity of women and men who aren’t afraid to stand up and speak out against violence. The candle-lighting ceremony honors victims and survivors of violence. The “speak out” is an opportunity for survivors to share their stories.
“Take Back the Night” events have been held by colleges and communities across the country for more than 30 years. This event is presented in collaboration with Alpha Chi Omega and other UNF departments as well as several Jacksonville community organizations.
