The Brooks College of Health at the University of North Florida announces it has added three Northeast Florida community leaders as new members to its Dean's Council.
The new Council members include Josh Ashby, Fleet Landing CEO; Donna Orender, founder/CEO, Orender Unlimited; and Colleen Riley, vice president for Professional Development and Medical Affairs, Vistakon, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care.
The Dean’s Council, which is comprised of 37 members, provides input and advice to the Brooks College administration and helps the College gain access to health care organizations for employment, clinical preparation and development activities.
As CEO, Ashby is responsible for managing the operations of Fleet Landing, a continuing care retirement community in Atlantic Beach. Before joining Fleet Landing’s management team more than five years ago, Ashby earned a bachelor’s degree in health, as well as a master’s of business administration from UNF. Ashby previously served as Fleet Landing’s director of Health Care Services for four years and then served as Chief Operating Officer before becoming CEO in September 2010.
He is licensed by the State of Florida as a nursing home administrator and is an approved preceptor. Ashby is currently involved with LeadingAge Florida in advocating for sound policy in the field of aging services. He serves on the Beaches Chamber of Commerce board as well as a member of the Rotary Club of Jacksonville and the World Affairs Council Jacksonville.
Before serving as CEO of Orender Unlimited, a consulting company that is focused on providing sales, marketing, media and diversity strategies for a wide array of industry companies, Orender served as president of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Prior to the WNBA, she spent 17 years with the PGA Tour, men’s golf, serving as the senior vice president of Strategic Development, in the Office of the Commissioner.
Orender’s business career began after playing three years in the Women’s Professional Basketball League, where she was an All-Star and an All-American basketball player. This experience enabled her to work in network television sports at ABC and later in cable television at SportsChannel before forming her own production company, Primo Donna Productions. Orender currently serves on the boards of the Monique Burr Foundation for Children, The V Foundation for cancer research, co-chairs the UJA Sports for Youth Initiative and The Board of W.O.M.E.N., a mentoring organization. She is a graduate of Queens College in New York and pursued graduate studies in social work at Adelphi University, where she was recently awarded an honorary doctorate.
At Vistakon, Riley leads the team that provides scientific and clinical expertise and focuses on professional development and education for eye care professionals. She also oversees the strategies and activities for The Vision Care InstituteTM, LLC, which provides innovative clinical, technical and practice education. She brings 17 years of progressive experience as a practicing optometrist, academician and clinical research strategist in corporate and clinical settings to her position.
Riley is a Fellow and a Contact Lens Diplomate in the Section on Cornea, Contact Lenses and Refractive Technologies of the American Academy of Optometry and is an accomplished speaker and author. In 2007, she was selected as one of the top 20 Most Influential Women in the Optical Industry and is the chair of the Women’s Leadership Initiative at Vistakon. Riley serves on the board of The Optometric Foundation, serves on the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Cornerstone Council and is a member of the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree along with a Master of Science in Physiological Optics from Indiana University School of Optometry.
