The University of North Florida Women’s Center and V-Day UNF 2010 will present a benefit performance of “The Vagina Monologues” on Friday, Feb. 12, and Saturday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. in the UNF Fine Arts Center’s Lazzara Performance Hall.

Proceeds benefit the UNF Women’s Center, Hubbard House and the V-Day 2010 Spotlight Project. Tickets cost $15 for the general public and $8 for students with any valid student identification. Tickets may be purchased through the UNF Ticket Box Office at (904) 620-2878.

“The Vagina Monologues,” have been hailed by The New York Times as “funny” and “poignant” and by the Daily News as “intelligent” and “courageous.” The performance was written by award-winning playwright Eve Ensler, who dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences. In addition, the 2010 Spotlight Monologue focuses attention on violence against women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The performance is made possible by a collaboration of more than 50 UNF students, faculty and staff who make up V-Day UNF 2010. In cooperation with the UNF Women’s Center and the global V-Day movement, V-Day UNF works to raise awareness of violence against women and girls through performances and educational events.

For more than 20 years, the UNF Women’s Center has been a vital hub of learning and advocacy for the entire University community. The Women’s Center provides emergency loans, victim advocacy services, rape awareness education as well as information and referrals on a variety of women’s issues, in addition to hosting performances, lectures and events each year.
