UNF Center for Global Health Hosts Second Annual Quality Safety Forum

The Center for Global Health and Medical Diplomacy at the University of North Florida will host its second annual Quality Safety Forum on Friday, May 7, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UNF University Center on campus.

The focus of the community education forum will be “Creating a Culture of Quality, Communication and Collaboration.” International, national and regional experts will discuss how advanced quality and safety efforts are enhancing our health, medical care and biomedical industry. Come out and participate in making Northeast Florida a region of medical excellence.

The featured keynote speaker Dr. Brent C. James, chief quality officer and executive director for the Institute for Health Care Delivery Research at Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, will be discussing a “Prescription for Change.” He is known internationally for his work in clinical quality improvement, patient safety and the infrastructure that underlies successful improvement efforts, such as culture change, data systems, payment methods and management roles.

Through the Intermountain Advanced Training Program in Clinical Practice Improvement, James has trained more than 3,500 senior physician, nursing and administrative executives, drawn from around the world, in clinical management methods, with proven improvement results. He is also a member of the National Academy of Science’s Institute of Medicine.

Other featured speakers include Dr. Rex Ragsdale, chief medical officer for Cerner East and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice, and Dr. Bridgett Duffy, a specialist in internal medicine. Ragsdale, who will discuss “The Role of IT in Quality and Safety Improvement,” has led distinguished medical institutions through successful computerized prescription order entry and electronic medical record projects. Duffy’s passion for patient-centered initiatives is inherent in her personal and professional goals, which led to her role as the first chief experience officer at the Cleveland Clinic. She will discuss “Executing on Quality and Safety Through the Eyes of the Patient.”

Conference registration fee is $75. Fee waivers are available for UNF faculty, staff and students. Breakfast, refreshments and lunch is included in the fee.
