The University of North Florida golf team continued its
outstanding early season play and is ranked 14th nationally in the most
recent Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
The Ospreys have finished 2nd out of 15 teams and 5th out of 17 teams
in its two tournaments played so far. They are back on the course for
the third of four fall tournaments on Saturday-Monday, Oct. 10-12, at
the Brickyard Collegiate Championship in Macon, Ga.
Sophomore Sean Dale has led the way for UNF, finishing 1st and tied for
24th in his two outings, good for a No. 15 national ranking. Dale held
the No. 1 ranking for two earlier rankings.
Junior Chris Kennedy made his season debut at the Gary Koch
Invitational (Oct. 3-4) and finished 9th. He is ranked No. 50 in the
country.
"It was a good weekend for us, to keep our ranking high and not play
our best," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "We have some work to
do to prepare for the Brickyard. The Brickyard is another real good
field and gives us an opportunity to show how good we are."
Oklahoma State tops the team rankings and Oklahoma State's Trent Whitekiller is the No. 1-ranked individual.
Jeff Sagarin’s rating system that is utilized by Golfweek is based on a
mathematical formula that uses a player’s won-lost-tied record against
other players when they play on the same course on the same day, and
the stroke differential between those players, then links all players
to one another based on common opponents. The ratings give an
indication of who is playing well over the past 52 weeks.
