Todd Uhlman, a junior nursing student at the University of North Florida, recently assumed the presidency of the National Student Nurses Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the professional development of nursing students.

Last spring, Uhlman was elected vice president of NSNA during the organization’s annual convention and recently assumed the responsibilities of the president when the office was vacated this summer. He also chairs the Association’s bylaws committee and serves on the executive, finance and community health committees. Uhlman was elected last fall as 1st vice president of the Florida Student Nurses Association and was also appointed to chair the bylaws committee.

“It’s not a common occurrence for a student to receive this type of recognition,” said Li Loriz, UNF School of Nursing director. “Todd’s leadership has been recognized at a national level and we are very proud of him.”

Uhlman has served in various leadership roles on the UNF campus, including president of the pre-licensure nursing class, School of Nursing Flagship Committee student representative, Brooks College of Health Building Committee student representative and member of UNF’s Student Nurses Association.

A Naval Air crewman, he was selected for the Nurse Candidate Program in the United States Navy and has been decorated several times during his eight years of active and reserve service. Uhlman received the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal in 2005 and the Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal in 2004, among other achievements.
