The University of North Florida’s Youth Sports and Fitness Camps and Osprey EcoCamp 2006 have openings for the summer.
UNF’s Youth Sports and Fitness Camps have openings for children between the ages of 5 and 14 years old. The camp, entering its 24th year, has become one of the best children’s summer camps on the First Coast.
The camp utilizes the state-of-the-art facilities on the UNF campus, such as the indoor, Olympic-sized swimming pool, UNF Arena, the soccer stadium and the GolfPlex. UNF’s camps are staffed with 20 counselors, all UNF education majors, student athletes or Duval County school teachers, with a ratio of one counselor for every 10 campers. Each day offers something different for campers, including flag football, stickball, tennis, track, soccer, arts and crafts plus field trips every week to locations such as Little Talbot Island, Metro Park, a Suns baseball game, bowling and more.
Camp begins Tuesday, May 30, and will continue for nine weeks. Parents can drop off their campers as early as 7:30 a.m. and pick them up as late as 6 p.m. The cost is $150 per week per camper. Registration for returning campers is April 24 through April 28. Open registration for new campers will begin May 8 and runs throughout the camp. Parents will need to provide their child with lunch and the camp will provide an afternoon snack.
For more information about the sports and fitness camp, call UNF at (904) 620-2998 or go online at www.unf.edu/recsports/camps.htm.
Osprey EcoCamp 2006 also has openings for children ages 7 to 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily during this weeklong, outdoor summer camp. Before and after care is available from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Your explorer will hike through the woods, go fishing, discover lake critters, swim at the pool, learn to canoe and visit many different habitats on the UNF campus. Five, one-week sessions will be offered, beginning May 29 and running through the week of June 26. Sessions are limited to 30 campers, with a minimum of 10 campers.
Tuition cost is $175 and includes an EcoCamp t-shirt, water bottle, snacks, drinks and most activity supplies. Campers must bring lunch each day.
