University of North Florida Athletics and the UNF Osprey Club will host a roast of UNF President John A. Delaney at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, at the University Center on campus. Proceeds from this event benefit student athletic scholarships and the UNF Athletics Department.
A silent auction will also be held at the University Center, beginning at 6 p.m. Tables of eight seats can be purchased at $750 per table or $100 each for individuals. To reserve a table or individual tickets, contact the UNF Athletic Development Office at (904) 620-1068.
Master of ceremonies for the evening will be David Lamm, who hosts both the Lamm at Large morning show on 930 AM The Fox and a weekly TV show on the Sunshine Network, in addition to appearing weekday mornings on CBS 47. He is a former sports editor/columnist for The Florida Times-Union.
Four community leaders and friends will be “roasting” Delaney during the course of the evening. They include Nat Glover, Marty Lanahan, Mark Mahon and Richard Mullaney.
Nat Glover was elected Sheriff of Jacksonville in 1995, serving in that position until 2003. He joined the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 1966, serving in a variety of positions from an investigator in the Detective Division to chief of services to deputy director of Police Services, one of JSO’s top positions. Glover received a master’s degree in education from the University of North Florida and graduated from Edward Waters College with a bachelor’s degree in social science. Glover and Delaney became close friends when both were elected to office in 1995.
With 20 years of banking experience, Marty Lanahan currently serves as the Jacksonville area president for AmSouth Bank, overseeing the development of business lines in a four-county area, including retail, commercial, small business, real estate, mortgage and wealth management. She began her banking career with The Atlantic Bank/First Union Bank after graduating from the University of South Carolina with a finance degree. Lanahan and Delaney faced off on different sides of a political issue after Delaney was elected Mayor. The two quickly gained respect for one another and became true friends.
Mark Mahon, a former assistant state attorney, is currently a lawyer in private practice and serves District 16 in the Florida House of Representatives. He was initially elected to the House in 2000 and subsequently re-elected. He received his law degree and bachelor’s degree from Florida State University. The friendship between Mahon and Delaney goes back 25 years, when both worked as prosecutors in the State Attorney’s Office.
Richard Mullaney is the general counsel for the City of Jacksonville. As general counsel, Mullaney is the chief legal officer for the Consolidated City of Jacksonville and is responsible for a 40-lawyer public law office. He received his law degree and bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida. Mullaney and Delaney struck up a friendship in the early 80s, when both tried cases together in the State Attorney’s Office.
