Dr. David Fenner, University of North Florida associate professor of philosophy, has been appointed Graduate School dean at UNF. His appointment to this position will begin May 6. He will provide strategic leadership, administration and oversight for all activities related to graduate studies at the University.
“Dr. Fenner brings to this position considerable experience in graduate education and a strong commitment and vision for the place of graduate programs at UNF,” said Mark Workman, UNF acting provost and vice president.
Fenner has been a UNF professor since 1992, when he started as a visiting assistant professor. He has been an associate professor since 2001 and most recently has served as acting assistant dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Before coming to UNF, he was a visiting fellow at the University of St. Andrews in the Department of Moral Philosophy. Fenner earned his doctorate and master’s in philosophy from the University of Miami and his bachelor’s in English and psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic College.
Fenner has been active in the community, having served on the board of directors, Tree Hill Nature Center; board of directors, Environmental Education Resource Council; school board member, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Day School; and consultant, State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
He’s also won numerous awards, including the 2001 UNF Students’ Choice Professor and the UNF Teaching Incentive Program Award. Fenner has authored two books, “Introducing Aesthetics” and “The Aesthetic Attitude.”
