Education expert and author Terry M. Moe will speak about “Charter Schools, Vouchers and Quality Teachers” at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 6, at the University Center on the University of North Florida campus.
Moe is the William Bennett Munro professor of political science at Stanford University, the chair of Stanford’s Political Science Department and a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution. Much of his scholarly work is concerned with the politics of education and the reform of the public education system, with special attention to issues related to school choice, school accountability as well as the power and impact of teachers unions.
In 2005, Moe received the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation Prize for Excellence in Education.
His book, co-authored with John E. Chubb, “Politics, Markets, and America’s Schools” is among the most influential and controversial works on education to be published during the last few decades. It has been a major force in the movement for school choice in America and abroad. Moe is also the author of “Schools, Vouchers, and the American Public,” the editor of “A Primer on America's Schools,” and has published a variety of articles, ranging from detailed statistical analyses to broadly based political accounts of why education reform is difficult and often unproductive.
Along with his work on education, Moe has written extensively on public bureaucracy, the presidency and political institutions, and is considered a leading figure in these fields.
This lecture is part of the Robinson Eminent Scholar Lecture Series, sponsored by the College of Education and Human Services. Tickets for this free lecture can be ordered online at www.unf.edu. Click on the Spring 2006 Lectures link.
