Each week we prepare a “TIP SHEET” for Jacksonville-area media highlighting events and activities of interest to the community. Individuals attending all events on campus are reminded that $2 parking permits are required and can be purchased at the Information Booth as they enter campus.


Presidential Inauguration

UNF will celebrate the inauguration of President John Delaney with a week of events beginning Monday, Feb. 16, and ending Monday, Feb. 23. The inauguration ceremony on Friday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m. in the Fine Arts Center is the highlight of the week of events. For details about the inauguration, visit www.unf.edu.

UNF Homecoming

UNF alumni have a chance to revisit their college days and meet today’s UNF students at the ninth annual Homecoming celebration Friday, Feb. 20, to Saturday, Feb. 28.

Homecoming events will kick off with an Alumni Reunion Happy Hour at The Jacksonville Landing’s center stage from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20.

The week will be packed with events for students and alumni and lead up to a show by comedians Carlos Mencia and Pablo Francisco on Friday, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m. in the UNF Arena. The show is free for UNF students, and general admission tickets are $5. Tickets are available from the University Ticket Box

Events continue on Saturday, Feb. 28, with the Alumni Scholarship 5k walk/run, which begins at 9 a.m. in front of the UNF Arena. Registration forms are available from the Office of Alumni Services at (904) 620-2132.

After the walk/run, the campus will turn to “Wild Western Days” for the Ozzie Gras Parade and pre-game tent party at the Arena at noon. The tent party includes a picnic lunch and entertainment suitable for the whole family.

Zakaria Returns to Speak at UNF

Noted Newsweek foreign affairs editor and columnist Fareed Zakaria will discuss his recent book, “The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad,” Monday, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the University Center on the UNF campus. The lecture is free, but tickets are required. Tickets are available from the Ticket Box Office at (904) 620-2878.

The lecture is sponsored by UNF, the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville, Water Street Capital and the UNF Foundation.

Flagler President Named UNF Distinguished Alumnus

The UNF Alumni Association will honor Dr. William Abare, president of Flagler College in St. Augustine, as its 2003 Distinguished Alumnus at the Alumni Association’s ninth annual Alumni Recognition Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m. in the University Center. Tickets are $25 each and are available from the Office of Alumni Services at (904) 620-4723.

The dinner also will honor UNF’s honorary and outstanding alumni. The 2003 honorary alumni include Dr. Betty Flinchum, Lisa M. Kaye, David A. Stein, and J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver.
