Historian to Discuss 'The Just University'

JACKSONVILLE -- Historian Stanley Katz will speak on “The Just University” on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the University Center on the University of North Florida campus.

Katz’s talk is part of UNF’s Distinguished Voices Lecture Series, and it is free and open to the public.

Katz is a part of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He also is president emeritus of the American Council of Learned Societies, a leading organization in humanistic scholarship and education.

He is co-editor, with Benjamin Gidron and Yeheskel Hasenfeld, of “Mobilizing for Peace: Conflict Resolution in Northern Ireland, South Africa and Israel/Palestine.” The 2002 book looks at peace and conflict resolution organizations. His research also looks at constitutionalism and civil society, and constitutional democracy prospects in the Middle East and Central Asia.

Katz graduated from Harvard in 1955 with a degree in English history and literature. He also received his master’s and doctorate from Harvard in American history in 1959 and 1961, respectively.
