Celtic Sounds Come to UNF
Paddy League and Laura Risk will perform Irish music Friday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Robinson Theatre, Building 14, as part of the John Francis Reilly Irish Studies Performance and Lecture Series. It is free and open to the public. League plays guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, concertina and the bodhran. He has played many Irish and Celtic festivals in North America, and he has performed for music recordings for various artists. Risk performs Scottish fiddle music and has recorded two compact discs. Their repertoire includes songs of Celtic origin from Ireland, Scotland, Cape Breton Island and Quebec.
Professors Honored
The University will recognize some of its outstanding faculty Friday, Oct. 10, at the Fall Convocation. Dr. Kunisi S. Venkatasubban of the Chemistry and Physics Department is the 2003 Distinguished Professor of the Year. Dr. Venkat, as he is known, teaches organic chemistry and works to involve students in his research projects. The award recognizes his dedication to undergraduate teaching. Other Convocation awards include Outstanding Faculty Scholarship Awards; Outstanding Faculty Service Awards; and Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Awards.
Family Weekend
The Office of Alumni Services will hold its Family Weekend on Friday, Oct. 10, through Sunday, Oct. 12. A movie on the Green on Friday evening kicks off the events. Saturday includes games and a picnic on the Green. A campus worship service and brunch wrap up the weekend on Sunday. For information, contact the Office of Alumni Services at (904) 620-2132.
