The American Empire
Local experts, UNF faculty and a student representative will discuss “Is There an American Empire? What Is the U.S. Role in the World” on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Robinson Theatre.
The event, sponsored by the UNF Department of Political Science and Public Administration and the Jacksonville World Affairs Council, will be in a town hall format. The panel includes: Bob Sandla, moderator; former Ambassador to Ecuador Sam Hart; Adm. Jonathan T. Howe, USN (Ret.); Dr. David Schwam-Baird, assistant professor, Political Science and Public Administration; and Stephen Sikes, political science student.

Board of Trustees Conference Call
The University of North Florida Board of Trustees will conduct a conference call Thursday, Feb. 20, at 2:30 p.m. Agenda items include a report on a request by the United Faculty of Florida for recognition as the faculty bargaining agent and updates on legislative issues and the presidential search process.
Individuals interested in listening to the conference call may do so on the web by going to www.unf.edu/trustees and clicking on the appropriate icon. Tutu to Present MLK Scholarship Luncheon
The University of North Florida will present the 22nd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Luncheon, featuring Nobel Peace Prize winner and international human rights advocate, Archbishop Desmond M. Tutu, on Friday, Feb. 21, from noon to 2 p.m., at the University Center, 12000 Alumni Drive. The University of North Florida and The National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) Jacksonville Region are sponsoring this event. Tutu, archbishop emeritus of the Anglican Diocese of Cape Town, South Africa, is a visiting scholar in residence at the University of North Florida.Luncheon tickets are $30 for individuals, $15 for students, and $400 for corporate tables of eight seats. Tickets are available at the UNF Box Office at (904) 620-2878.
Eating Disorders Awareness Week
The UNF community will participate Feb. 24-28 in the nationwide program to mark Eating Disorders Awareness Week, a national effort to counter the growing trend of eating disorders. The week will feature the following programs:
-- Monday, Feb. 24, 7 p.m. . The Residence Halls will sponsor the "Wall of Fame and Shame," a program designed to raise awareness of how advertising negatively affects body image. The program will feature the film "Killing Us Softly," followed by the creation of the Wall of Shame&Fame.
-- Tuesday Feb. 25, 6 p.m. . Wackadoo's will sponsor a "Dinner and Dialogue" for UNF athletes and coaches, in which experts will talk about eating disorders, body image and the effects on athletes.
-- Wednesday, Feb. 26, 6 p.m. in Building 14, Room 1700 . Student Activities presents the Wednesday Night Movie "Slim Hopes," a film that analyzes how female bodies are depicted in advertising images and the devastating effects of those images on women's health.
-- Thursday, Feb. 27, 6 p.m. . Watch Improv Jacksonville in Building 14, Room 1700, and learn how to use improvisational techniques, movement and artistic creativity to celebrate the body.
