Each week we prepare a “TIP SHEET” for Jacksonville-area media highlighting events and activities of interest to the community. MEDIA INVITED TO TUTU WELCOMING

 


Area media are invited to the Jacksonville International Airport at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, for the welcoming ceremony of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who will teach several classes this semester at UNF. Welcoming Tutu will be UNF Interim President David Kline and Jacksonville Mayor John Delaney. Following the ceremony in the Haskell Gallery on the concourse level of the airport, media will have an opportunity to interview Tutu, who is arriving from South Africa. This is the Nobel Peace Prize winner’s second visit to UNF. For information, contact the Office of News and Publications at 620-2140.



SPRING SEMESTER BEGINS


UNF students will begin classes on Wednesday, Jan. 8.



FLORIDA POLITICS


"Elections, Perceptions, Reflections: Will Florida Ever Recover?" is Thursday, Jan. 9, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the University Center.


The forum is a candid examination of Florida's image at home, nationally and internationally in the wake of the 2000 and 2002 elections. Panelists include Clay Roberts, general counsel, Florida Department of State; Sherry Burns, general manager, WJXT-TV Jacksonville; Tom Patton, news director, WJCT PBS Jacksonville; Lisa Hall, APR, Herrle Communications, Tallahassee; Dr. Gwen Chandler, Jacksonville City Council; Dr. Matt Corrigan, president, Florida Political Science Association. The panel is moderated by Dr. Henry B. Thomas, chair, Duval County Election Advisory Panel and chairman of UNF's Political Science&Public Administration Department.
