What's Happening at UNF


Ozzie Gras


UNF celebrates Ozzie Gras, the annual Homecoming celebration all this week with a parade, professional comedians, talent show and other events. This year’s theme is "A Celebration of Unity." A full schedule of events will be sent later in the week.



Best of Jacksonville


The March of Dimes’ Fifth Annual Best of Jacksonville party will be Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. in the University Center. There will be food, fun, and entertainment as Jacksonville’s favorite people and places come together to showcase their specialties. Tickets can be purchased for $15 in advance and $20 at the door by calling the March of Dimes at 398-2821.



Music at Midday


Music at Midday Concert Series will feature Scott Watkins, piano, in an all-Bach solo recital on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 12:15 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Small Recital Hall. Admission is free.



The Global Decline of Reptiles, Déjà Vu Amphibians


Dr. Whit Gibbons of the University of Georgia will speak on protecting our hidden biodiversity on Friday, Feb. 1 at 3:30 p.m. in Building 3, room 1381. This free lecture is part of the Natural Sciences Seminar series.



15th Annual Koger-Matteson Jazz Festival


Area high school jazz ensembles will perform throughout the day on Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Robinson Theatre followed by an awards presentation ceremony. There will be a grand finale featuring the UNF Jazz Ensemble and UNF faculty members in an evening concert. The concerts are free and open to the public.



Beyond Dr. Dobson: Women, Girls, and Focus on the Family


Dr. Colleen McDannell, Sterling McMurrin Chair of Religious Studies, University of Utah, will be present her paper ,"Beyond Dr. Dobson: Women, Girls, and 'Focus on the Family'" on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Mathews Computing Science Building, Room 1303. This free lecture inaugurates the new Religious Studies Speaker Series on campus.



Great American Jazz Series: Bill Allred's Classic Jazz Band


Bill Allred's Classic Jazz Band will be in concert on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7;30 p.m. in the Robinson Theatre. The group features Bill Allred, trombone; Charlie Bertini, trumpet; Bob Pickwood, cornet, vocals; Terry Myers, saxophone, clarinet; John Allred, trombone; Jay Mueller, bass; Warren Sauer, drums and Randy Morris, piano. Tickets are $20 for non-students and $8 for students.
