Sexual Assault Awareness Fair: April 9


The UNF Women’s Center will present it’s annual Sexual Assault Awareness Fair on Tuesday, April 9 the University Green starting at 10 a.m. The fair will be a showcase of campus and community services offered to students.



UNF Concert Choir&Chamber Singers: April 9&11


The UNF Concert Choir&Chamber Singers will present two spring concerts with Dr. Merrill J. Palmer, conductor. The Choir will present works by Vaughan-Williams, Villa-Lobos, Michael Haydn, Holst, Childs, Hogan, and Mathews. The Chamber Singers will feature selections from the Brahms, Liebeslieder Waltzes, Op. 52. The free concerts will be Tuesday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Palms Presbyterian Church, 3410 South Third Street in Jacksonville Beach and on Thursday, April 11 at 8 p.m. in the UNF Fine Arts Center Small Recital Hall.




The Decline of Civic Involvement in America: April 10


The Institute of Government is sponsoring "The Decline of Civic Involvement in America: Real or Imagined?" on Wednesday, April 10 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the UNF University Center. Funded by the Florida Humanities Council, the program is free and open to the public. The forum is designed to inform and involve citizens in the discussion of the level of civic involvement in out area and nationally. Dr. Sherry Magill, executive director of the Jesse Ball duPont Fund, will be the keynote speaker. The forum will also include three panels: Traditional Agencies; Grassroots Organizations and New Movements/Causes. For more information contact the Institute of Government at 620-2844.



National Alcohol Screening Day: April 11


The Campus Alcohol&Drug Information Center will participate in National Alcohol Screening Day on Thursday, April 11 on the University Green from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.



Republic of Turkey Ambassador O. Faruk Logoglu-April 11


Ambassador O. Faruk Logoglu from the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Washington, DC will speak in the College of Business, Stein Auditorium on Thursday, April 11 at 3 p.m. His appearance is sponsored by College of Business Administration and the International Forum Institute.



Irish Poet Richard Murphy: April 11


Richard Murphy, legendary Irish poet, will present a reading of his poetry on Thursday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Robinson Theatre. A reception hosted by the Friends of Irish Studies and the Department of English and Foreign Languages and a book signing will follow.



Alumni Family Fun Day-April 13


UNF alumni and their families are invited to attend a baseball game at Harmon Field on Saturday, April 13 at 3 p.m. For more information contact Jeanne Middleton at 620-4723.



UNF Board of Trustees- Finance&Audit Committee-April 16


The UNF Board of Trustees- Finance&Audit Committee will meet Tuesday, April 16 from 12-1:30 p.m. in the University Center. For more information contact Jim Van Vleck in the President’s Office at 620-2500.



Tribute to Rich Matteson- April 16


A faculty recital featuring J.B. Scott, trumpet, the UNF Jazz Ensemble II, UNF Jazz Combo, and special guests will pay tribute to Rich Matteson who was instrumental in founding the jazz studies program at UNF with a concert on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Robinson Theatre. Admission is free but donations will be accepted for the Rich&Mikki Matteson Jazz Scholarship.



UNF Board of Trustees Meeting-April 18


The UNF Board of trustees will meet on Thursday, April 18 at 2:30 p.m. in the University Center. Agenda items include discussion of revised budget; update on new financial system; tenure recommendations; Department of Nursing change of designation to School of Nursing; presentations by colleges and a legislative update. Florida Film&Video History-April 18


Historic highlights of early movies and telecasts in the region will be featured in a media presentation on "Florida Film and TV History" by Executive Director Steven Davidson of the Florida Moving Image Archive, a state-designated collection of video and motion pictures located in Miami. The Department of Communications and Visual Arts is sponsoring his only public appearance in North Florida. The screening and discussion, open to students, faculty and the public, will be in the Mathews Building 15, Room 1303 on Thursday, April 18, at 5 p.m.



Maxi Priest at Earth Music Fest-April 20


International reggae star Maxi Priest headlines this year's Earth Music Fest on Saturday, April 20th, at the UNF Soccer Stadium. The free annual outdoor multicultural festival celebrating Earth Day runs from 12 to 6 p.m. and features live music, arts and crafts vendors, environmental organizations, Jamaican food, concessions, and a "Kid Stuff" play area. Music is non-stop with DJ Paul Ledgister spinning between sets. No coolers or pets are permitted. Event is rain or shine. For more information, call Osprey Productions at 620-2460.
