Top 10 Marks of Excellence

• For the third year in a row, The Princeton Review named the University of North Florida one of the best colleges in the Southeast. It’s one of 133 institutions The Princeton Review, a nationally known education services company, recommends in its “Best in the Southeast” section of its website feature, “2011 Best Colleges: Region by Region.”
   
• UNF received the 2010 Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in recognition of the University’s exceptional commitment to community engagement.
   
• UNF’s academic profile has been gaining strength as the University has grown more competitive. The incoming freshmen in Fall 2010 had a weighted grade point average of 3.79 and an SAT score of 1204 (reading and math), the highest in UNF’s history.
  
  
• The University of North Florida was named a “Military Friendly School” for 2011 by G.I. Jobs magazine, for the second year in a row. This honor ranks UNF in the top 15 percent of all colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide.
  
  
• UNF students travel abroad for credit at twice the national average, giving them numerous Transformational Learning Opportunities (TLOs). TLOs, an innovative education approach developed at UNF, offer students a variety of life-changing experiences.
   
• Three UNF electrical engineering students helped develop a prototype wristwatch capable of monitoring every beat of a patient’s heart and alerting paramedics in an emergency.
   
• Students in the Brooks College of Health have a high pass rate on all licensure and certification examinations, including a 100 percent first-time pass rate for physical therapy and nurse practitioner students.
   
• Coggin College is among the fewer than 7 percent of business schools worldwide that have achieved the distinction of international accreditation of their business and accounting programs by the AACSB.
   
• More than 75 percent of the College of Education and Human Services graduates take either new positions in local schools or are already employed by school districts. More than 25 percent of newly hired teachers in Duval County are graduates of University of North Florida.
   
• The four-story, $40 million Biological Sciences Building will be the seventh ‘green’ building on campus. It will house 16 teaching labs as well as 27 faculty research labs for aquatics, virology, ecology, necropsy, genetics, physiology, molecular biology and molecular cell biology. It will also be home to a roof-top greenhouse for maintaining plant specimens, living corals and marine life for use in both teaching and research labs.
