UNF is nestled among 1,381 acres that include a nature and wildlife area with lakes and trails. A portion of the campus is used for scientific research, and area school children visit for environmental lessons.
All 2,400 on-campus residents in UNF’s five residence halls receive free high-speed Internet access, local phone service and cable TV service with an information channel programmed especially for students.
The 63,000-square-foot Social Sciences Building opened in 2006, becoming the first LEED-registered facility in Jacksonville and the first “green” building on campus. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) represents buildings that reduce storm water run-off, use materials that do less damage to the environment, provide user-friendly recycling stations and reduce energy use.
UNF will spend more than $170 million over the next three years to implement its master plan, which includes construction of a new College of Education and Human Services building, Student Union, additional student housing and Parking Services building, in addition to expanding the Brooks College of Health.
