 Executive director of the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations; completed a distinguished career of military and diplomatic service retiring from the U.S. Navy as an admiral in 1992

 Graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy; earned M.A., M.A.L.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University                                                                                         

Activities:

 Chairman of the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville; president of Fleet Landing; past president of Rotary Club of Jacksonville   

Personal:

 Wife, Dr. Harriet M. Howe, taught sociology at UNF; married more than 50 years; has six adult children
