First Day Information
New employees, or employees returning after a break in service, should report to the Office of Human Resources
(HR) to process for payroll and "Welcome to the Nest". HR is located in Building 1 (J.J. Daniel Hall), Room 1101.
At the beginning of each bi-weekly pay cycle, the Office of Human Resources conducts a new employee orientation called, "Welcome to the Nest." During this day-long program, new employees will meet representatives from many departments across campus who will provide information new employees need as they join the UNF family. Part of the day will include a walking tour of our beautiful campus, so new employees are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. If special accommodations are needed in order to participate in the walking tour, new employees should contact HR directly at (904) 620-2903. Please allow several days notice if a wheelchair is required so that we can have one waiting when you arrive.
During the day, new employees will have their Osprey staff ID card made, learn about UNF’s employee portal called myWings, set up their UNF e-mail account, and learn more about the University’s annual and sick leave benefits and other insurance/retirement benefits. Lunch will be provided. At the end of the day (at approximately 4:30 p.m.), new employees will have the option to speak with HR representatives, complete paperwork or report to their department. You'll be tired, but you will have not only taken care of the "business" of starting employment at what we think is the best University in the state, but will also have met some great people and learned more about this place we call home.
All new Administrative (A&P), Support (USPS) and full-time OPS employees are required to attend our new employee orientation program on their first day of employment. Hiring departments may request that new part-time OPS employees attend orientation. New Faculty members will attend the annual new faculty orientation scheduled and managed through Academic Affairs.
Hiring departments must confirm the first day of work for new employees with Human Resources prior to extending job offers so that the first day of work coincides with a scheduled new employee orientation date.
New employees are required to provide valid and unexpired personally identifiable documents that will be used to complete the I-9 Employment Verification Form.
- To verify Identity, you must bring a valid unexpired photo identification card (e.g., driver's license, passport, etc.)
- To verify work eligibility, you must bring your original social security card, original birth certificate, or unexpired passport
Please reference the List of Acceptable Documents PDF for a complete list of documents you can bring to complete your I-9.
*International employees need to complete extra steps prior to visiting Human Resources for payroll processing. Please review the International Employees webpage for more information.
Direct Deposit is required for all employees. To set up Direct Deposit, a personal voided check or bank statement (if you bank online you can print a bank statement at HR) is needed. You may also provide a printout or letter from your financial institution stating your name along with your account and routing numbers. Note: Payroll requires that attached proof include printed legal name and account number.
Yes. In addition to completing your I-9, new employees are required complete payroll processing paperwork.
The chart below details the payroll processing paperwork required for each position type. An "X" indicates which forms are required by position type. New employees have the option to review and complete the below documents (relevant to their position) before their first day. For questions about position type (e.g., Administrative, Support, etc.) or any of the below documents, please contact Human Resources at (904) 620-2903.
When arriving on campus
for orientation, new employees must first stop at a Parking Services kiosk and
enter a Visitor Parking Code for a complementary temporary parking
pass. There are Parking Services kiosks at both the I-295 entrance and the
Kernan Boulevard entrance, as well as in the parking garages on various floors.
Please park in the parking garage Building 38, next to the Arena, second floor
or above. The kiosk is located on the second floor. Make sure to park “nose-in”
so that your license plate is visible from the driving lane. Make note (or take
a picture) of your vehicle license plate to enter at the kiosk.
At the Kiosk,
press 2 for Pay by Plate Parking using Department or Event Codes. Enter your
license plate number and follow the on-screen prompts to activate your parking
permit. (Note: the state of Florida does not use the letter O, only number
zeros.) The kiosk will print a receipt of purchase – this does not need to be
placed in your vehicle window. Human Resources will provide the visitor parking code via email on the Friday prior to New Employee Orientation.
