Housing and Residence Life Staff

The Housing and Residence Life staff work together to provide an outstanding on-campus experience for you!


The Housing staff is overseen by the Associate Director of University Housing Operations and handles all questions, as well as invoicing and billing, assignments, work orders and the overall condition of our residence halls.


The Residence Life staff is overseen by the Associate Director of Residence Life and is responsible for engaging students in the residence halls, creating an inclusive residential environment, and providing a safe home away from home. The Residence Life staff is comprised mostly of Student Staff (CAs, LCAs and RAs) and Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs), who live with the residents in the halls. They are responsible for creating programs for their floor/community, counseling residents through roommate conflicts and policy enforcement.

Director of Housing & Residence Life

Mr. Bob Boyle 

The Director of Housing and Residence Life, under the supervision of the Vice President for Student Affairs, is a full-time, master's-level housing professional responsible for the development and direction of Housing and Residence Life. The Director has the comprehensive administrative and supervisory responsibility for budget oversight, facility inventory and services, housing related safety and security issues, housing contract management, housing capital projects including renovations and new construction and the development and direction of the comprehensive residence life program.


Associate Director of Housing Operations


Ms. Kristin Smith  

 

The Associate Director of Housing Operations is a master’s-level housing professional who oversees The Flats at UNF as well as the Housing Operations staff and reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life. Responsibilities include: supervising the Coordinator of The Flats at UNF, Coordinator of Housing Operations and Housing Mailroom staff  as well as overseeing or facilitating the contract process, assignments, Contract Cancellation appeals, Summer Camp and Conference Operations and Welcome Desk Operations. The Associate Director of Housing Operations also serves as a member of the Housing and Residence Life Senior Staff team and on the Senior Staff on-call duty rotation.

 

When to contact:

  • Student in crisis or needing assistance with a concern that can not be resolved
  • An interest or concern regarding Living-Learning Communities or Theme Housing
  • Following up with other Housing Operations staff members (Office staff, Assignments staff)
  • Residential student mailroom concerns that can not be resolved with the mailroom staff
  • Overall Housing and Residence Life initiatives

Associate Director of Residence Life

 

The Associate Director of Residence Life is a master’s-level housing professional who oversees the Residence Life program and reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life. Responsibilities include: supervising the Assistant Directors of Residence Life, HRL Academic Initiatives, Living-Learning Communities, and Housing and Residence Life Conduct. The Associate Director of Residence Life also serves as a member of the Housing and Residence Life Senior Staff team and on the Senior Staff on-call duty rotation.

 

When to contact:

  • Student in crisis needs
  • An interest or concern regarding Living-Learning Communities or Theme Housing
  • Following up with other Residence Life staff members
  • Residential student conduct concerns
  • Overall Residence Life initiatives

 

Assistant Director for Student Leadership and Staff Recruitment 

Ms. Morgan Murray   

 

The Assistant Director for Student Leadership and Staff Recruitment is a full-time, master’s-level housing professional who leads the Residence Life recruitment, selection, and student leadership initiatives. Responsibilities include: senior adviser for RHA and NRHH student-led organizations, direct supervisor to three RLCs and chairs the Recruitment and Selection Committee. The Assistant Director for Student Leadership and Staff Recruitment also serves as a member of the Housing and Residence Life Senior Staff team and on the Senior Staff on-call duty rotation.

When to contact:

  • Have an interest in meeting with RHA, NRHH or Student Staff
  • Have a student who could potentially make a great Student Staff member
  • Following up with Residence Life staff members

  

Assistant Director for Student Success and Staff Development 

Ms. Sarah Friswold

The Assistant Director for Student Success and Staff Development is a full-time, master’s-level housing professional who leads the Residence Life development, training, and Living-Learning Community (LLC) initiatives. Responsibilities include: management of LLCs and theme housing communities, direct supervisor to three RLCs and chairs the Training and Development Committee. The Assistant Director for Student Success and Staff Development also serves as a member of the Housing and Residence Life Senior Staff team and on the Senior Staff on-call duty rotation.

 

When to contact:

  • Interest in participating with Student Staff training
  • Interest in being a part of Living-Learning Communities or Theme Housing
  • Following up with Residence Life staff members

 

Assistant Director of Facilities

Mr. Steve Crews

The Assistant Director of Facilities is a full-time, bachelor's-level housing professional whose primary responsibilities include the direct supervision of the maintenance and custodial staff and the oversight and upkeep of all housing property. The Assistant Director of Facilities is responsible for the day-to-day cleaning and maintenance work performed in the housing properties. This individual is responsible for minor project planning, room inventory and the preparation of the residence halls for various occupancy periods. The Assistant Director of Facilities reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life.

 

 

Assistant Director of Budgets

Ms. Ellen Gayton

The Assistant Director of Budgets is a full-time, bachelor's-level professional whose primary responsibility is the daily management of the Housing and Residence Life budget. The Assistant Director supervises a Senior Accountant, a Senior Accounts Payable Representative and an Accountant. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of Housing and Residence Life in the development of the operational budget and in setting rental rates for the housing areas. The Assistant Director is responsible for all reports and requests for information related to the Housing budget. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life.

 


Residence Life Coordinators

The Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs) are professional full-time staff who work traditional business hours. They are typically entry-level staff who have a master's degree in student affairs, higher education, college student development or counseling. Each RLC manages a community of 450-500 students, directly supervises 8-11 RAs for their respective areas, is the professional staff first-responder for emergencies and crisis situations, adviser to their respective area council, Conduct Hearing Officer and they chair a Housing and Residence Life educational committee.

 

When to contact:

  • Develop and coordinate programs for community residential students
  • Manage student concerns and following up with a student who live in the community
  • Working with an RA that's been difficult to follow up with for a program
  • Roommate conflict facilitator
  • Conduct concerns of residents
  • Student wellness checks

 Meet the Residence Life Coordinators

 

 

 

Student Staff 

Resident Assistants 

RAs are generally full-time undergraduate student staff members. Each RA oversees about 50 students on a floor, wing, house or village apartment building and are supervised by an RLC. Some of the responsibilities of the RA include: work with students, provide programs for their students, actively develop the residential community and enforce policies. RAs have in-community duty responsibilities, office hours in the area, and work on Housing and Residence Life committees.

 

Learning Community Assistants   

LCAs are generally full-time undergraduate student staff members who reside in many of our Living Learning Communities. Their primary responsibility is the community development of the Living Learning Community and putting on programs and events around the communities focus.

 

Community Assistant

CAs are part-time student staff. They live and work with the residents of The Flats at UNF. Community Assistants work to support the academic success and personal growth of the students living in the student housing community. The CA is expected to promote a supportive and friendly environment for Flats residents. CAs are critical to the success of building healthy communities where residents feel safe, included, valued, and involved.
