Research Committee Minutes


Call To Order:	Caroline Guardino, 11:00 a.m.

Members Present:	Caroline Guardino, Stephanie Weiss, Laura Heffernan, Paul Mason, Alexandra Schonning, Tammie Johnson

Members Absent:	Wanda Hedrick


I.	Approval of Minutes
	April minutes completed via email with old committee members.

II.	Introductory Remarks/Old Business
	Introduction by each committee member.

III.	New Business/Agenda Items/Information Reports
	General idea of the committee’s work:
		Call just went out yesterday for proposals.
		We will reconvene in October to divvy the proposals and begin the review process.
		Reviews will be done electronically.

	RFP Revisions Include:
		Review process – Change to in-house reviews completed by the committee members for quality and consistency.
		Evaluation criteria added:
			Is the project new?
			Is the project from a junior faculty member?
			Was the proposal written so faculty from other disciplines could understand it?
			Is the project currently funded? If so, how will this funding advance the project?

		Invite Cathy Christie, Associate Dean of BCH, to come and speak Cathy was emailed on Sept. 5, 1012.
		See if we should be involved in the follow-up of the report.
	Anyone interested in serving as co-chair? This is my last year as chair. None of the members responded to this request. One member stated that they were going on leave next year and would be unable to serve as chair, thus declined the offer of co-chair.
	Meeting times
		Members confirmed meetings on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. are good.

IV.	Other Discussions and Announcements
	One committee member asked about the review process. They inquired as to whether the proposals would be assigned based on committee members’ background and area of expertise. The chair responded by telling the committee that all of the proposals are randomly assigned to avoid reviewer bias, especially since we tend to know what others in our college are doing.
	One committee member asked if they could submit a proposal. It was clarified that committee members were ineligible to submit proposals. They were given the option to remove themselves from the committee. They opted to stay on the committee and apply at another time of the year.

However, she is unavailable on September 26^th. Therefore, we will meet with her at our meeting scheduled on Oct. 17^th. At this meeting, we will first divvy out the proposals and I will discuss the review procedures from 10:30-11. At 11am Dr. Christie will come to speak to us about the ORSP-Research Management Review. Prior to this meeting, I ask that you read The Review and gather any questions that you may want to present to Dr. Christie at the meeting. Please be aware that this meeting may last a little longer because we are combining two meetings into one. I understand if you have to leave at 11:45 because you have class.
