RESOLUTION: Whereas
no educationally-sound reasons for merging UNF with any other institution
have been advanced, and whereas numerous educationally-sound reasons
for not merging UNF with any other institution can be advanced,
now therefore, be it resolved by the Faculty Association of the
University of North Florida: The Faculty Affairs Committee shall
establish an Anti- Merger Subcommittee which will:
1) Keep the Association informed of developments relating to the
apparent threat of a possible merger of UNF with some other institution.
2) Take steps to inform legislators, regents, and other appropriate
parties that this Association is opposed to being merged with any
other institution, offering reasons for opposition and inviting
reasons in favor of merger, if such there be.
3) Engage in any other activities appropriate to and active, intense,
continuing anti-merger stance.

present an opportunity for open communication on important matters
affecting the faculty, since decisions affecting faculty often need
to be made by the Association during the Summer, and since the conversion
to the Semester System will necessitate By-laws revision of the
Association Meeting Schedule during the 1981-82 year, that the Faculty
Association conduct its activities throughout Summer 1981 with committee
meeting as necessary and the Association holding regular meetings
on July 9, August 6, and September 10.

Graduate Program Admission - Deaf
students. Proposal related to the admissions criteria for deaf students
wishing to enter graduate programs:1. The term "deaf students"
be used to describe prelingually hearing impaired students with
a hearing loss of 70 decibels or greater in the better ear. 2. The
3.0 GPA be used to evaluate either the last two year of the student's
undergraduate program or the overall undergraduate program. 3. That
deaf students be allowed to use the successful completion (as indicated
by a grade of B or above) of 9 semester hours in lieu of the Graduate
Records Exam for direct admission. These 9 semester hours must include
two core courses in student's major and one non independent study
course outside of the student's major dept. All three of these courses
would be a part of the student's regular course of study. 4. If
neither of the above criteria can be met, the deaf student would
have the right to pursue the normal exemptions policy.
