Minutes of Meeting

FACULTY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

Thursday, December 8, 2011 @12:30 p.m.

Bldg 57, Rm 3201

Present:
Ellie Scheirer (Chair), Jeff Harrison, Stacy Keller, Barbara Kruger, Pat Plumlee, Gordon Rakita

Absent:
Mina Baliamoune, Dominik Guess, Adel Boules, Kathy Robinson (sick)

The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 12:34 PM.

The Committee reviewed the draft regarding the proposal for an Outstanding Faculty Community Engaged Scholarship Award. The text was approved, with the understanding that the dates for the 2012 process would be reconfigured due to the delay in presenting the item to the Faculty Association for approval. (The Executive Committee had scheduled its December meeting one week earlier than announced, due to remodeling in Building 10. Thus, this item could not be presented to them for placement on the January 2012 Faculty Association agenda. As a result, the earliest date for Faculty Association consideration was February 2, 2012.)

Pat Plumlee described several issues raised by faculty regarding the awards processes, especially with regard to the timelines for submitting materials. He asked the committee to consider the timelines. The committee decided that no changes were necessary at this time.

Minutes from the committee’s November meeting were approved as submitted.

The committee agreed upon the following meeting dates and times for the Spring semester
of 2012:

Thursdays, 12:30-1:45 PM on January 19, February 19, March 8, and April 12, 2012. The Committee also decided to schedule at least one meeting for the Summer Semester: June 14, from 12:45-2:00 PM.

Pat Plumlee presented the possibility of streaming Faculty Association meetings in terms of practicality and costs. He also raised the possibility of having fewer Faculty Association meetings per semester.

Pat Plumlee shared the memo from State Senator Alexander to Chancellor Brogan.

The meeting adjourned at 1:20 PM.
