The Research Committee's primary responsibility has traditionally been to conduct a formal review of the Summer Scholarship Grant application submissions and then provide Academic Affairs with a ranked list of potential award recipients.
38 Summer Scholarship Grant applications were submitted in the Fall of 2005 for the Summer 2006 awards. Each proposal was evaluated by three different reviewers. Each reviewer reviewed on average 3 proposals. The Committee distributed the proposals, making sure that at least one reviewer was from the same college as the applicant, and that at least one was from a different college. Committee members were responsible for recruiting reviewers in their respective college/department.
A standardized review form was used to score review criteria. The three reviewers' scores were averaged and ranked and then the committee reviewed the applications that received close scores. A final ranked list was provided to Academic Affairs along with the recommendation that the top 20 applicants on the list be awarded a Summer Scholarship Grant. Based on the Committee's recommendation, the 'top 20' applicants were awarded grants.
In the Spring of 2006, Mina Baliamoune-Lutz (Chair), Adam Shapiro (Vice Chair), and David Lambert (Committee Member) individually met with Dr. Imeh Ebong, Assistant Vice President for Research, to discuss different aspects of research at UNF.
