Budget Advisory Committee 2005-2006 Annual Report

The Budget Committee is responsible for evaluating and recommending policies, procedures, and practices concerning the University budget with special emphasis on the Academic budget and shall meet regularly with the University Budget Officer.

This 2005-2006 report contains a synopsis of the Budget Committee’s deliberations and action items submitted to the Association; the status of work in progress; and any issues to be addressed in
2006-2007 or beyond.

Deliberations

Fiscal Year Comparison of UNF Budget – The Budget Committee met with the University Budget Officer and participated in a comparison of the 2004-05 and 2005-06 budgets. The results of this comparison were presented to the faculty in a Faculty Association meeting as well as in a narrative report.

Fiscal Year Comparison of Academic Affairs Budget – The Budget Committee met with the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs who discussed the budget development process within Academic Affairs. The Budget Committee also participated in a comparison of the 2004-05 and 2005-06 Academic Affairs budgets. The results of the Academic Affairs budget were presented to the faculty in a Faculty Association meeting as well as in a narrative report.

Faculty Association Budget Committee Survey – As part of the Budget committee’s goals for the year and to identify future topics of interest for the Faculty Association Budget Advisory Committee a faculty survey was proposed. The Faculty Association Budget Advisory Committee developed an electronic survey to identify those budget issues of greatest importance to the faculty. Items of interest included travel, research funding, sabbaticals, etc. The Faculty Association Budget Advisory Committee Survey was completed by 172 of 440 faculty at UNF for a response rate of 39%. The results of the Faculty Association Budget Advisory Committee Survey were presented to the faculty in a Faculty Association meeting as well as in a narrative report titled: Summary of 2006 Faculty Association Budget Survey Preferences: in General and by Sub-groups

Action Items:

The following topics will be evaluated by the Faculty Association Budget Advisory Committee during the upcoming year.

An evaluation of the UNF EMG budget and comparison to Administrative expenditures as well as comparison to other Florida State Universities.
An analysis of support staff compensation as well as comparison to other Florida State Universities.
Follow on invitations to speakers to provide update on recent budget initiatives.

Issues to be Addressed:

The following are suggestions to be deliberated and monitored by the Faculty Association Budget Committee.
