| Meeting was called to order at 12:15 p.m.
| Vince Smyth--Auxiliary services consists of food services, parking, bookstore, University box office, ID card program, post office, vending machines, convenience copiers, and campus pay-for-print.
| Bookstore - Smyth said students can directly use financial aid for buying books. This has proven much more efficient than having to receive, deposit, and cash a check. Overall, book adoptions were down
50 % for the spring term. Smyth said this is a serious issue because fewer timely adoptions reduces the supply of used books for students. King explained that some faculty hesitate about adoption when they know a new version of a book is coming out…but are not sure of its availability. Owen suggested holding a contest for faculty with a drawing or prize for all of those who meet the deadline for adoption. |
Food Services - The construction of a Starbucks in the Library/Atrium space is progressing. The cost of the design worked up by Starbucks went higher than the proposed budget. Some proprietary materials have to be purchased when creating a Starbucks…flooring, color choices, equipment. These materials can be costly. Smyth has been negotiating to try to save money on the design. He thinks the coffee shop will be built this summer. It is a license arrangement; not a franchise.
In the dining hall, a dish-room addition is to be built onto the existing dining hall. It will contain the dish-room, tray return, and an upgraded plumbing system. Also, a restaurant of some kind is being considered for the Student Union (3 years away). Smyth also reported that breakfast was discontinued at Sbarro’s due to financial concerns. Rama made comments about the dish cleaning/wet tray situation at the dining center. Smyth said he would look into these issues.

Parking - Loss of spaces will occur in lots 3 (Education bldg.) and 4 (Student Union) due to construction over the next few years. This is almost 1000 spaces. The campus plan is to build more spaces in the north end of the campus and build a “green road” through environmentally-sensitive areas to connect to UNF Drive. Timeline: summer 2007.

Other parking issues—
1. Cleaning stripes and improving lighting in the parking garage.
2. Improving stop signs or stop-sign compliance in garage. (Smyth said this is a police matter).
3. Improving the design of permits for campus visitors & guests. |
