| ITS Presentation - Alison Cruess
| Cruess would like to have an ITS Townhall meeting for faculty to discuss e-mailing class lists. The Committee recommended having the meeting at the beginning of a term. King mentioned that he would like to be able to send attachments to a class list. |
| A Powerpoint file from Alison Cruess is attached to this message. The following minutes were added as questions or responses to the presentation.

The computers in technology-equipped classrooms are re-imaged each term. There is some difference in equipment and software between ITS-owned and college specific-owned technology classrooms. Internet cables are being added to classrooms to provide laptop internet access. Wireless is not currently available in most classrooms. The issue is that wireless internet access could cause a distraction to a faculty member who is teaching (students reading e-mail, playing games, etc.) ITS currently converts four classrooms to technology-equipped classrooms each year at a cost of about $15,000 each. There was some discussion about the placement of viewing screens directly in front of blackboards. This makes the chalkboard unusable. Also, access to I, O, and N drives was discussed. Faculty can use the I, O, N drives (100 megabytes current capacity) to retrieve files for use in technology-equipped classrooms. The faculty member simply logs into the PC to gain access. |
Cruess requested support for the following:
1. |
ITS would like to convert 20 more classrooms to technology-equipped classrooms next year. |
2. |
ITS would like support to remove all chalk and chalkboards from classrooms. The dust creates havoc with technology and projectors. Chalkboards would be replaced by whiteboards. |
3. |
ITS would like to know if faculty want wireless access in all classrooms. |
4. |
ITS would like to know if lecture /ADA combination podiums would work better in the classrooms. (The lecture podium area is higher; the ADA podium is 36 inches high). |
5. |
ITS wants feedback about how many classrooms need to be created to support collaborative teaching activities, i.e. work by groups. |
6. |
ITS would like to know about the interest level in acquiring Smartboards. These writing surfaces on wheels…are basically like portable whiteboards…but the information can be saved electronically. |
7. |
ITS would like to know if faculty would use “sympodiums” which are tablet PC’s built into podiums. |
8. |
ITS would like to know if faculty want lectures audio-taped. This is done at other institutions. |

Other Business |
Kathy Cohen provided a wish list of databases that the Library would like to acquire but does not currently have the funding. The list will be discussed at a future meeting. |
Meeting adjourned at 1:20 p.m. December meeting is cancelled. Meeting times for next semester will be set in January. |
