I.
Approval of Minutes:

The minutes from the January 2006 meeting were approved as distributed via email.

II.
Introductory Remarks/Old Business :

Cynthia informed the group there are two more names for the Faculty Association officer election: Henry Thomas, College of Arts and Sciences for President and Candice Carter, Education for Vice-President.

The election will take place at the Faculty Association meeting March 2. Cynthia will prepare the ballots and bring the ballot boxes to the meeting. Absentee ballots will be available in the Faculty Association office the week before the election. Lee will prepare the faculty signature list. Jan and Robb will be at the meeting to hand out ballots. Cynthia reviewed the following schedule for monitoring the ballot boxes (Claudia might also help on Friday):

Thursday, March 2 Friday, March 3
1:15-3:00 Robb 9:00-11:00 Mike
3:00-4:00 Cynthia 11:00-1:00 Lee

The committee will meet Friday, March 3 at 1:30 in the Faculty Association Meeting Room, 11/1327 to count ballots. At least four people are needed to count ballots. Claudia will bring the ballot boxes from the faculty commons to 11/1327.

III.
New Business/Agenda Items/Information Reports :

During the March 2 meeting, names will be taken from the floor for University and Standing Committee vacancies. Cynthia will write the names on transparencies and Claudia will make a list of nominees.

Committee members should start canvassing their colleges for nominees. Each nominee and college represented should be emailed to Cynthia once it has been determined there is a slot on the requested committee and the nominee isn’t already serving on two committees. A faculty member may not serve on more than two standing committees at once, nor serve more than two consecutive terms.

Claudia asked about special requirements for someone to qualify to serve on any of the committees. Cynthia informed the group that there are no special requirements for any current committees. Only tenured faculty can serve on the Sabbatical Committee and Promotion and Tenure Committee, but the faculty union will take over responsibility for forming those committees once contracts are settled. Elections for Sabbatical and P&T are no longer the responsibility of the Nominations and Elections Committee. This was decided by Judy Solano, Faculty Association President, at the February Faculty Association meeting.
