Meeting called to order at 10:00, Office of Faculty Enhancement Conference Room

1. Minutes of the last meeting were approved.

2. Chair Nolin proposed that Diane Kazlauskas, who is currently recuperating from a broken leg, might be able to participate by phone at our next meeting. Committee agreed to this proposal.

3. Chair Nolin distributed a list of goals that the committee might consider for the following year. The committee will focus on the following three goals for the 2005-6 year:

Assist with attendance at OFE/CIRT events; each committee member will work on a specific event
Amend the bylaws to allow two COAS representatives
Present a two-slide PowerPoint on OFE/CIRT opportunities for the coming few weeks during the FEC committee report at the Faculty Association meetings.
In addition to these, we discussed:
Should OFE use an over-riding theme (e.g. critical thinking) to unite the year’s programs?
Should we consider how OFE/CIRT might be better integrated with initiatives proposed by other academic or administrative units (such as the push for assessment and Academic Learning Compacts)?
Designing a two-part session to combine syllabi development and instructional technological integration
Lobbying for additional funding should workload/projects demand this
Selecting an academic theme for the work of the committee through the year
Select a persistent problem that impacts faculty as a continuing item for the agenda

These will be discussed with Jace Hargis upon his return.

4. Discussion of procedure for evaluating Summer Teaching Grants. Applications now reflect new criteria used in evaluation; these criteria are repeated on evaluation forms generated by JoAnn Nolin. Committee members should begin seeking reviewers for Teaching Grant applications, which are due on Oct. 7. Nolin will distribute packets to each committee member that contain applications from outside that individual’s own college. Nolin will follow up with date by which completed reviews are needed.

Next meeting is scheduled for October 25 at 10:00 in the Office of Faculty Enhancement Conference Room.

Meeting adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
