Faculty Association Committee Minutes

Present:

JoAnn Nolin (Chair), Mina Baliamoune-Lutz, Sanjay Ahuja, Diane Kazlauskas, and
Jace Hargis (Director, Office of Faulty Enhancement). Steve Paulson, Richard Chant,
and Krista Paulsen were not present.

Meeting called to order at 10 a.m., Office of Faculty Enhancement Library

1.	Review of Minutes: Minutes of the last meeting were reviewed and approved.

2.	Director’s Report Applications continue to be accepted for the BUILD course development program until April 7, 2006. Response for the seminar to be held May 1-3 has been better than prior years. The program will center on teaching and learning but will include use of an IPod as a tool to enhance course planning and teaching.

	The Florida Faculty Development Consortium Semi-Annual meeting was held at the University Center on March 9, 2006. The meeting was well attended by University Directors of Faculty Enhancement from across the state. Prior OFE Director, Dr. David Jaffee gave the Introduction and Associate Provost provided a lunch presentation. Jace Hargis reported that he was elected to serve on the Executive Committee for the Southeast Regional Professional Developers Consortium in their annual meeting in Atlanta on March 4-7, 2006.

	Jace Hargis then presented a DRAFT of the Office of Faculty Enhancement (OFE) Call for proposals for 2006-7 OFE Faculty Fellow. The Faculty fellow position has been revised for the upcoming year to offer one position which includes a significant commitment to work with the OFE in development and promotion of program offerings, interaction with university faculty in a variety of venues and preparation of a manuscript on the scholarship of teaching and learning.

	It was suggested that the proposal be provided to the Department Chairs prior to the official announcement to allow consideration of impact of faculty reassignment for the fall semester.

3.	Committee Transition: It had been previously decided to invite newly elected committee members to the April meeting as an orientation them to the work of the FEC Committee. JoAnn Nolin will send an invitation to the new members with follow up by Jace Hargis.

4.	Other: Preparation for the fall 2006 committee work will continue over the summer. Richard Chant will work with CIRT’s David Wilson on possible use of Web Surveyor as a platform for automating the teaching grant review process. JoAnn Nolin will work with other committee members on development of a committee paper detailing anticipated resource and personnel needs for the Office of Faculty Enhancement.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 25, 2006 at 10:00 am in the OFE library (Building 10).
