Technology Demonstration:
Don Farshing and Elaine Poppell provided a demonstration of the distance learning technology available in the FEEDS studio. While priority for use of this classroom is given to Engineering and CCEC courses, gaps in the schedule currently permit its use for courses in other colleges or for special events. |

Fall Schedule: Hargis is seeking faculty input for events to be scheduled in Fall 2006. The needs assessment survey is one resource to be used in this, as are conversations between FEC members and their colleagues. Suggestions offered at this meeting included a sharing session on distance and hybrid classes that would include the Distance Learning Committee and members of the College of Health (among others). This would provide an opportunity to share successes and challenges. A second suggestion was a panel discussion on teaching and learning in large classes, particularly classes enrolling 150-200 students. Topics might include discipline issues, active learning and discussion, and course management. FEC members should email further suggestions to Hargis. |

Other: The committee discussed attendance at various OFE/CIRT events, and what might account for high and low attendance. Several members concurred that “Low Threshold” or less time-consuming enhancement activities and technologies might be more popular given the demands on faculty time. The committee also discussed the popularity of organized versus drop-in events, and how these are used for technological versus pedagogical concerns. A key question was just how OFE should understand the meaning of “Enhancement.” Nolin and Hargis will design a short survey to ask how faculty understand this term and OFE’s role. The meeting concluded with a brief conversation about the new OFE/CIRT website and how FEC members could share this with their colleagues either electronically or print. |
