The committee’s work of the plagarism issue (June and July meetings) was sent back to Academic Standards. |

College faculty mentor idea from early summer
The committee would like c-techs to identify possible faculty mentors that are able to help other faculty with technology problems. (Some faculty are reluctant to as for help from c-techs due to possible intimidation, and at times, a c-tech may not be available.) See item 4c below.

Online classroom documentation is done!
The committee will recommend to ITS that the following information be added:
|
| |
|
Need instructions for ‘all’ technology type items. For example, some faculty are not able to find a ‘toggle’ switch unless it is labeled as ‘toggle switch’. Perhaps a description of where to find switches, etc. might help. |
| |
|
Rooms which have ADA compliant technologies need to be identified ( e.g. subtitles) |
| |
|
Info on how to use lights with projector (i.e., lights on or off?) See Item 6 in new business below. |
| |
|
Posted office hours of C-techs, and names of faculty mentors that are willing to assist faculty |

CIRT staffing –
To be submitted to Joann Campbell in Academic Affairs
The Campus Technology Committee (CTC) supports the conversion of CIRT's current OPS position to a full-time Instructional Designer line and the addition of a grad assistant to focus on data-mining. The additional faculty lines added this year, the growth in new technologies that are available for teaching and research, and the rise in the number of faculty needing technology assistance has increased the demand for assistance. CTC has been making, and will continue to make recommendations to CIRT concerning faculty needs. The committee has also been informing faculty of technologies and services offered by CIRT. Both of these efforts will increase the work load of CIRT employees.

Florida Lambda Rail
Lance gave us a PowerPoint overview on Florida Lambda Rail/Internet2. The committee has asked CIRT (Deb Miller) to set up an information session for the faculty. UNF is one of 11 owners. Faculty are able to access data bases such as CDC about 45 times faster than regular campus connections.

|
|

New Technologies
Lance Taylor told us that ITS is prepared to meet the needs of faculty using new technology tools such as web logs. Faculty should contact CIRT or the respective C-techs.
|
|
|
3. |
Currency
Lance Taylor informed us that currency does not cover graduate teaching assistants as it has been limited to E&G lines. Faculty with special situations should contact College C-techs.

UNF website – Paul Harwood asked if our committee could address some concerns of the new UNF homepage:
| |
“I wonder if we could talk about the new UNF homepage at the next technology meeting. There is a lot of academic work (studying government and commercial websites) that shows more links on the first level of a webpage leads to better information-processing and better information-gain by users. Our new website has drastically reduced the number of links on the homepage- which is counter to a lot of the literature. I wonder whether we could discuss/ find out the reasoning for reducing the number of links.” |
|
The committee will invite Marketing and Publications (Dan Dundon and/or Bernard Ablola) to discuss at the October CTC meeting.
|
| |
|
5. |
Emailboxes
The committee asked Lance Taylor and Kathy Hughes how faculty could get emailbox quotas increased. Faculty may request through their respective C-techs increases in email space, web server space, and storage drives. C-techs will need to prepare a RFS and submit to ITS.

Four new classrooms with newly equipped technology are rooms 2/2060, 9/1421, 10/1327 and 45/2412. There are 56 technology equipped classrooms and 37 non-equipped classrooms. Most of the 37 have overheads, tv’s and vcr’s. Kathy Brown sent a request to CTC saying: “I'd like to see CTC go to UTC with the proposal that there be a monetary commitment to tech-equip every classroom ...plus a currency schedule... with some sort of timeline that won't stretch to the end of the millennium... If UNF is going to compete, we have to provide the proper environment...” The committee agreed to submit a recommendation to UTC to put technology equipment in 100% of all schedulable classrooms as well as make them eligible for currency replacement at the next UTC meeting. Catherine Cavanaugh reported that UTC was creating the Technology Classroom Design Action Team. |

Classroom lights
Committee recommends that classrooms contain dimmer options on lights. Some rooms have only 2 options---all the light off, or all the lights on. It is often difficult to see the screen with lights on, and too dark for students to write if the lights are off.

|
8. |
Portals
The committee will contact the Web Advisory Committee to ask about web portals and channels as some departments are interested in this.

To be submitted to DLC for approval then to UTC jointly from CTC and DLC:
The Campus Technology and Distance Learning Committees recommend the formation of an action team to function in the event that a faculty member requests technology services or support that involve multiple campus departments or offices, such as Campus Technology Committee, Distance Learning Committee, C-Techs, BB administrators, CIRT, and ITS. This may include but is not limited to, such technologies as personal/student response systems, plagiarism tools, and pod casting tools that may require the coordination of several groups to operate and may be used in multiple departments. We recommend that the action team be composed of the chair or designee from Campus Technology Committee, Distance Learning Committee, C-Techs, BB administrators, CIRT, and ITS. The action team would meet as needed at the request of any single group that determines that a request from faculty requires the involvement of several groups. The action team would facilitate the faculty member's request by coordinating input from the involved groups.

The committee recommended that CIRT give handouts to departmental secretaries of the services that CIRT offers. This would help secretaries to know where to refer faculty when they ask about technology. |
