Old Business:

The committee held a special meeting to discuss a Faculty Fellow for adjuncts with Acting Provost Dr. Mark Workman. Dr. Workman questioned the effectiveness of a Faculty Fellow for adjuncts and suggested looking at other ways to resolve adjunct issues before trying to assign a Faculty Fellow. The Office of Faculty Enhancement is responsible for coordinating UNF orientations and providing some resources. Dr. Workman will ask Academic Affairs about providing adjuncts with recognition for excellence in teaching and providing exemplary adjuncts with appropriate rewards.

 

Regarding the issue of feedback on teaching for adjuncts, Dr. Workman suggested someone from the committee attend a deans meeting and possibly meet with chairs of each college. It is the responsibility of each dean to ensure feedback on teaching is provided to adjuncts and the committee needs to raise this issue with deans. After some discussion, the committee decided to administer a brief survey to adjuncts to have recent information on feedback on teaching to present at a deans meeting.

 

After Dr. Workman left, discussion continued about the survey and a Faculty Fellow. Committee members will contribute possible questions for the survey via email. The survey will be sent to adjuncts via email after the first week of classes in January. The committee agreed not to give up the idea of a Faculty Fellow for adjuncts, but to explore other options first as Dr. Workman suggested. There may still be issues raised by adjuncts that might best be handled by a Faculty Fellow.
