I.
Old Business:

It was discovered that the minutes for the meeting of Nov. 18 th, 2005 (attended by

Acting Provost Mark Workman) had not yet been produced. Lee Richardson said the minutes would be made available to committee members via email by the following morning. Lee Richardson then verbally reviewed the principal points covered in the meeting with Mark Workman, the main one being that other avenues besides appointing a faculty fellow should be explored for resolving how to address feedback for adjuncts’ teaching.

II.
New Business:

The committee revisited the issue of querying the adjuncts by an email survey. Following the November meeting, Nancy Levine had sent an email to the committee members raising a number of concerns about the Workman visit and suggesting questions for the adjuncts’questionnaire. The participants briefly debated whether it was necessary to survey the adjuncts, but ultimately decided that, at the deans’ meeting, the survey responses would substantiate the committee’s claim that adjuncts were underserved. Lee said she would reformulate and resend the questions to the committee members the following day for their approval. The committee agreed that the questionnaire should be sent out to the adjuncts the following Monday and that the adjuncts would have two weeks to respond, with Feb. 6 th serving as the deadline.

The issue of how soon a representative of the Adjunct Affairs Committee would speak at the meeting of the deans was discussed, and Nancy Levine strongly urged that the committee not wait until April but aim for the February or March meeting. The question was then discussed as to what the departmental chairs were charged with doing with regard to observing their adjuncts—was it enough for the chairs to examine adjuncts’ student evaluations or was more expected of them. The committee determined that it needed more information.

The committee moved on to discussing UNF’s web site for part-time faculty; Jace Hargis has expressed a wish that the Adjunct Affairs committee update his office with information “to make this website active and useful.”

The committee briefly returned to the matter of the adjuncts’ survey and decided that it would be good to send a follow-up email to the adjuncts giving the survey results.

Lee Richardson brought to the members’ attention an email sent by an adjunct asking for relief from UNF’s allegedly high parking fees. It was decided that the committee could do nothing to address this concern but opted to forward the email to the “parking advisory committee” and to copy it to “faculty affairs.”

As the final item, Lee announced that she was organizing with Jim Alderman another library orientation for adjuncts and that a flyer would be distributed to them.
