Janet Bosnick called the meeting to order at 10:05 a.m.

I. Approval of Minutes
 

The minutes from the May 4 , 2006 meeting were approved.

   
II.  Introductory Remarks
 

Janet Bosnick announced that the minutes from the Automating the APC Processes Requirements Workshop has been posted. Arturo said that we thought that we were well on our way with the automation project when we learned that we were required to send forms through various offices for approval. We have the financial support from Academic Affairs.

Janet asked everyone to attend the Faculty Association meeting at 12:45 today to help with the quorum and support the College of Education reorganization plan.

Coggin College of Business
Economics and Geography
Log# 05/06-229R: APC 3 to modify the program of study for the Bachelor of Business Administration, Economics Major. All economics majors will be required to participate in the study abroad program. The proposal was held over from the last meeting pending clarification of how the change fits into the program of study. Approved.

College of Arts and Sciences
Biology
Log# 05/06-242: APC 3 to change the program of study for the Minor in Environmental Studies. Typo in Section A(4), line 8, “Infomration” will be changed to “Information”. Approved with change.

World Languages
Log# 05/06-243: APC 2 to change LAS3930, Cultures in Latin America, to add “Foreign Culture” status to the course. Approved.

Philosophy
Log# 05/06-251: APC 1 to add a new course, PHI5XXX, Ethical Issues in Death and Dying.
Approved.

Log# 05/06-252: APC 1 to add a new course, PHI5XXX, Moral Conflict. Learning outcomes will be improved. Typos in Section C.5 will be changed. In the first line, “gradaute” will be changed to “graduate”, “distringuished” will be changed to “distinguished” and on the second line, the period after “presentations” will be changed to a comma. Approved with changes.

Log# 05/06-253: APC 3 to change the program of study for the Masters in Practical Philosophy and Applied Ethics, Graduate Certificate in Applied Ethics. In Section A.4, in the second line of the description, the “pursuring” will be changed to “pursuing”. Approved with change.

Log# 05/06-254: APC 1 to add a new course, PHI3XXX, Socrates and the Sophists. Approved .

Log# 05/06-255: APC 1 to add a new course, PHI3XXX, Moral Conflict. Learning outcomes will be improved. In Section C.5, Methods of Evaluation, on the first line, the period after “presentations” will changed to a comma. Approved with changes.

Shawn Brayton asked if there is a difference in content in the courses proposed with the APC forms 252 and 255. Jennifer Fisher replied that the content is the same but the methods of evaluation are different.

Log #05/06-268: APC 3 to change the program of study for the Minor in Religious Studies by adding courses to the list of electives. Approved. College of Computing, Engineering and Construction

Computer and Information Sciences

Log# 05/06-244: APC 2 to change the prerequisite for CGS4307, Information Processing: An Organizational Perspective to CGS1100 or CGS1570. Approved.

Log# 05/06-245: APC 2 to add a database course as pre/co-requisite to the existing prerequisites for COP4813. Approved.

Log# 05/06-246: APC 3 to change the program for study for Bachelor of Science in Computer & Information Sciences, Tracks for Computer Science, Information Science, and Information Systems. The proposal adds a clarification statement under the Major Elective category. Approved.

College of Education and Human Services
Counseling and Educational Leadership
Log# 05/06-249: APC 1 to add a new course, EDA6XXX, Applied Transformation of Conflict. In Section A.12, Other will be changed to Graduate for Course Used in Program Type. In Sections C.1 and C.2, the typo “tranformation” will be corrected. In Section C.1, under Prerequisites, the phrase “or permission of instructor” will be added. Approved with changes.

Log# 05/06-250: APC 3 to add the Certificate in Conflict Transformation. In Section B.1, under Other, ED Cognate will be changed to EDD Cognate. In section A(4), “Certicate” will be changed to “Certificate” in the first line of the second paragraph. In the same section, “requried” will be changed to “required” in the third line. APC 3 forms are required from each college affected by the Certificate program. Approved with changes.

Brooks College of Health
Public Health
Log# 05/06-247: APC 1 to add a new course, RCS6XXX, Counseling/Develop. Theories & Techniques in Rehabilitation. In Section C.3, Course Description, “profesional issus” will be changed to “professional issues” on the last line. In Section C.4, Course Objectives, “resollution” will be changed to “resolution” in the sixth objective. Approved with changes.

Log# 05/06-248: APC 3 to change the program of study for the Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling. In Section A.4, the first sentence will be changed to “The course being added – RCS6XXX, Counseling/Develop. Theories & Techniques in rehabilitation – will replace MHS6400, the course being removed as a requirement from the program of study.” Cynthia Scott explained that the course is not being terminated. Both courses will remain in the catalog, but a student cannot receive program credit for both courses. The course number will be typed into the form. Approved with changes. 

   
IV. 

APC 3 EZ Short Form – Placement of Instruction

 

Katharine Brown recalled that the APC 3 EZ form which was used “only for additions and/or deletions from a list of electives in an established program” was withdrawn because Committee members agreed that the form was too confusing. The usefulness of the form was revisited during the last two meetings. The Committee decided to table the discussion of use of the APC 3 EZ form pending the implementation of the automation project.

   
V.  Lab Fees
 

Changes to the lab fee blocks and Supplemental Instructions on the APC 1 and APC 2 were discussed. In the APC 1, Section B.5, a pull down menu will allow for the options of yes or no when asked if a lab fee is associated with the course. On the APC 2, Section C.5, the pull down menu will allow for the options of add or remove. The amount block will be removed from both forms. A link to the form will be in the instructions, not on the APC 1 or APC 2 form. Janet will provide Cindy with the wording for the instructions. Katharine Brown suggested that when a form indicating a lab fee is received, a reminder to complete the lab fee form can be issued to the faculty member who submitted the form.

   
VI. Other Business
 

The Committee voted to remove Section C.12 -- Change Co-requisites/Prerequisites -- from the APC 2 form.

   
VII. Adjournment and Next Meeting
 

This is the last meeting for the 2005-06 Academic Programs Committee. There are no meetings scheduled in July and August. The next meeting will be Thursday, September 7, 2006 at 10 a.m. in Building 10, Room 1104 for the 2006-07 Academic Programs Committee.
