Approval of Minutes |

The minutes from the September 1, 2005 meeting were approved. |

Janet Bosnick welcomed Glenn Coffey, a new member from Criminology and Criminal Justice.

Janet reminded the Committee that light breakfast and lunches will be set up for the meetings on November 3 and 10. |

Academic Programs Review |

| 1. |
| COAS, Sociology and Anthropology: Log # 05/06-060- 062 |
| Log# 05/06-060: APC1 to add new course to program – Practicum in Applied Sociology. |
| Log# 05/06-061: APC2 to modify the program of study. SYA6126 will be changed from a required course to an elective, reducing the number of credit hours required to complete the MSAS program from 36 to 33. |

| Log#05/06-062: APC2 to modify the program of study. SYP4050 will be deleted as a required course and become an elective. SYG2000 will be added. The number of upper-division sociology electives will increase from 3 to 4. |

| All proposals were unanimously passed. |

| There was discussion on the need to improve the objectives and to differentiate between Levels I and II in course requirements. When the instructor for the course has not yet been determined the name of the faculty member responsible for the proposal should be added to the forms under Section V(B) which asks who will teach the course. |

| The Committee voted to accept the courses with changes. |

| CCB, Economics and Geography: Log#05/06-026 and 027 |
Log#05/06-026: APC1 to add new course, Study Abroad in Geography
Log#05/06-027: APC1 to add new course, Study Abroad in Geography

| There was discussion on the need to differentiate between the two courses because one is an undergraduate course and the other is a graduate course with the same descriptions and requirements. There should be a better indication of how students will be evaluated. |

The Committee voted to accept the courses with changes. |

| 4. |
| CCEC, Building Construction Management : Log#05/06-028-045 |
Log#05/06-028: APC1 to add new course, Commercial Construction
Log#05/06-029: APC1 to add new course, Heavy/Civil Construction.
These two courses will be senior capstone electives. Wording of objectives should be improved.
Log#05/06-030: APC1 to add new course, Construction Materials.
Under the course description, “Laboratory sessions provides” should be changed to “Laboratory sessions provide.”
Log#05/06-031: APC1 to add new course, Directed Individual Study
In the course description, “introduces” should be removed. In the objectives, there should be more description of what the student will do.

| Log#05/06-032-042.: APC2 forms to change course titles or prerequisites. |
Log#05/06-043: APC2 to terminate BCN1210L, Construction Materials Lab
Log#05/06-044: APC2 to terminate BSN1210, Construction Materials |
| Log#05/06-045: APC3 to change program of study. The changes are in response to recommendations made by the American Council for Construction Education, the accrediting body for Building Construction Management. |

| The Committee voted to accept all forms with changes. |

| 5. |
| COEHS, Curriculum and Instruction: Log#05/06-023-025 |
| Log#05/06-023: APC1 to add new course, Current Trends in Teaching Foreign Languages |
| |
The Committee requested the following changes:
Change course description to “This course is designed for the experienced classroom teacher or for individuals with a background in foreign language methods. It provides updated information on programs and methodology regarding the teaching of foreign languages.”
Change objectives for better measurability.

| Log#05/06-024: APC3 to add FLE6665, Current Trends in Teaching Foreign Languages to the Spanish Cognate Track in the Secondary Education major. |
Log#05/06-025: APC1 to add new course, Language and Cognitive Foundations for Reading.
The objectives in the syllabus are taken from the State of Florida reading endorsement. The Committee requested that Objective 14 be shortened and that occurrences of “understand” be changed to “demonstrate understanding through discussion.” The effective date should be changed to 2006 on the forms.

| COH, Public Health: Log#05/063-074 |
Log#05/06-063: APC1 to add new course, Consumer Issues in Healthcare
Log#05/06-064: APC1 to add new course, Aging in America
Log#05/06-065: APC1 to add new course, Introduction to Health Policy
Log#05/06-066: APC1 to add new course, Independent Study
The Committee requested that the objectives be changed to give examples of “other activities, as assigned.”
Log#05/06-067: APC2 to change course description of HSA4170
Log#05/06-068: APC3 to change program of study for the Health Administration Track by adding four courses, changing course description of HSA4170, and removing seven courses from the program of study. These courses will not be terminated.
Log#05/06-069: APC1 to add new course, Healthcare Human Resources
Change typo in course description – “heath” to “health.”
Log#05/06-070: APC1 to add new course, Healthcare Leadership
Log#05/06-071: APC1 to add new course, Long Term Care Internship
Log#05/06-072: APC1 to add new course, Quantitative Analysis for Health Services
Log#05/06-073: APC3 to terminate HSA6815
Log#05/06-074: APC3 to change program of study in Public Health. The changes are being made in compliance with curriculum requirements of the program’s accrediting organization, the Commission on Accreditation of Health Management Education.
