MINUTES OF MEETING
NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS COMMITTEE
Thursday, February 17, 2005
1:30 PM @ FAMA

Call To Order:

Dr. Barbara Olinzock called the meeting to order at 1:35 p.m.

Members Present:

Sherif Elfayoumy, Cynthia Jordan, Russell Mays, Barbara Olinzock, Claudia Scaff, & Jan Meires, recorder

Members Absent:

Lee Richardson

I.	Approval of Minutes:
	Minutes of the January 20th meeting were reviewed and approved.

II.	Old Business:
	Dr. Olinzock led the discussion and the review of committee vacancies for Faculty Association Committees and University Committees. Committee members offered names of candidates for open positions. The names were recorded by Dr. Olinzock who will update the lists for the hotline. Members reviewed/discussed several ways to recruit faculty for committee membership for the remaining open positions. Dr. Olinzock asked committee members to email her with new updates and she would forward names to Cindy Chin after double checking

III.	New Business:
	Dr. Olinzock reminded members that the ballot/slate of names for committee positions needed to be completed prior to the March 3 rd Faculty Association meeting. If there were remaining open positions, nominations would be taken from the floor. Cynthia Jordan offered to help record names of candidates taken from the floor. Dr. Olinzock volunteered to create the ballot and distribute it to members for comments prior to the election. Elections are to be held on April 7 th immediately after the Faculty Association meeting until 5 p.m. in the afternoon and from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the 8 th. The overall voting process was reviewed with committee members. Volunteers were solicited from the members to facilitate the election process. Cynthia Jordan and Russell Mays agreed to supervise and assist the voting process after the April 7 th meeting and throughout the afternoon. Russell Mays and Sherif Elfayoumy agreed to supervise the voting on April 8 th. Several members of the committee will be available to count ballots after the election closes on April 8 th. The next committee meeting is scheduled for March 17 th, 1:30 p.m. at FAMA. Dr. Olinzock will notify members if this meeting is not needed.

IV.	Other Discussions and Announcements:
	Cynthia Jordan spoke with Jim Alderman about using Blackboard for elections in the future. Mr. Alderman reported that it is possible to insert a "block" in Blackboard for faculty to type in the last four digits of their SS#s prior to voting. This technique could be used to verify the faculty member as an approved voter. Additionally, if Blackboard were used to cast votes, only the votes would be tabulated, not who voted for whom.

	The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
