NOMINATION AND ELECTION
ANNUAL REPORT
2004-2005

line

Barbara Olinzock assumed chair in September 2004 and led the committee through August 2005. The work of the Nomination & Election Committee during Fall of 2004 focused on the November elections for Nomination and Election Committee vacancies. The election resulted in a tie vote for the At-Large position and it was noted that there were no provisions addressed in the by-laws to resolve a tie vote.

In the November Faculty Association Meeting, the Nominations & Elections Committee brought forward a proposal for revising Article VII Sections 3 and 5 to include provisions for tie votes. It was proposed that that in the event of a tie vote for any of the Faculty offices, a run-off election shall be held in the April (Annual) meeting. In the event of a tie vote for a committee position shall use a coin toss by the Chairperson of the N & E Committee in the presence of another N & E member to determine the winner. The proposed By-Law revisions were finalized and approved in the December meeting by the Faculty Association membership.

The committee began the work of elections for all Faculty Association and University committees during January and February 2005. The committee worked to recruit nominations for all vacancies and was successful in nominating faculty for all committee vacancies. The election was successfully conducted at the Annual April meeting of the Faculty Association.

In addition to conducting elections, the committee also recruited and offered recommendations for appointments to fill any and all committee vacancies as needed by Judy Solano, the President of the Faculty Association. All committee vacancies were filled during the 2004-2005 term.

Cynthia Jordan will assume the Chairperson position as of September 2005. The work of the committee for 2005-2006 will focus on 3 elections including the November election of Nomination & Elections vacancies, a March election for Faculty Association offices and an April election for upcoming vacancies for committee positions. Committee members also recommend that the voting process be streamlined possibly through the development of an on-line voting process.
