Present: Russell Mays (Chair), Krista Paulsen (Secretary), Sanjay Ahuja, Cynthia Jordan and Jace Hargis (Director, Office of Faulty Enhancement); JoAnn Nolin (Vice Chair), Steve Paulson and Mina Baliamoune-Lutz were not present.

Meeting schedule for the coming semester will remain the same, except for the week of Spring break (meeting March 14 instead)

Review of Summer Teaching Grant Application Review Process
Chair Mays will coordinate the collection of suggestions regarding the review process, and forward suggestions to Academic Affairs. Suggestions shared at the meeting include defining the evaluation criteria, differentiating between the criteria of "innovation" and "creativity", requiring grant recipients to present their work at an OFE/CIRT Conference, providing more time for application review, imposing rules on repeat awards (e.g. that recipients must wait at least one year before re-applying), developing a means of providing feedback to unsuccessful applicant, and reviewing the possible use of an ad-hoc committee to review applications. Mays will invite Marianne Jaffee or another representative from Academic Affairs to one of our meetings to discuss these and other possible changes to the process.

Needs Assessment
The committee reviewed some needs assessment instruments that OFE had used in prior years to gauge faculty interest in various programs. Some concern was expressed about the length of the survey instrument. Hargis stated that findings from any assessment would be most useful in May. Cynthia Jordan will take the lead on reviewing possible assessment instruments.

Progress reports on Getting the Word Out about OFE/CIRT Programs
Support was expressed for Mays's announcements at Faculty Association Meetings. A suggestion was made that suggestions for OFE/CIRT Programs might also be collected at these meetings.

Hargis distributed the OFE/CIRT Spring Program, and asked committee members were asked to review and comment. He also circulated information on the BUILD and Faculty Fellow programs, and asked for assistance in generating applications for these. He discussed the status of funding for the instructional Designer position, and also solicited feedback on the OFE/CIRT online newsletter.

The committee will meet next on February 21, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in the Office of Faculty Enhancement Conference Room .
