Next Meeting: The next regular meeting of the Committee will be on October 12, 2004, in the Faculty Association meeting rooms.
   
Member Attendance: Ellie Scheirer, 2003-2004 Chair; Faiz Al-Rubaee, Minor Chamblin, Kathy Cohen, David Courtwright, Jeanne Patterson, Pat Plumlee, Steve Shapiro (as Faculty Association Vice President), Diane Tanner, and Judy Solano (as Faculty Association President)
 
Approval of the notes from the meeting of May 13, 2004
 
The notes from the meeting were approved. The May meeting, however, did not have a quorum.
 
Meeting times for the Fall Semester of 2004
 
Due to conflicts with other scheduled meetings, the Faculty Affairs Committee meeting schedule was adopted to the following times and dates: Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at noon; Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at noon; and Thursday, December 9, 2004, at noon.
 
New Business
 

Committee leadership for the 2004-2005 academic year-after some discussion, the Committee decided to experiment with shared leadership. Ellie Scheirer agreed to co-chair the Committee with Kathy Cohen, subject to her agreeing to this responsibility (She has since agreed to this task.). Other Committee members will assist with minutes, information gathering, and other work on the agenda.

Discussion continued regarding the qualifications for applying for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Awards. Faculty status required for such application was modified in order to permit those who are "laboratory lecturers and are instructors of record" to apply. This item will be forwarded for inclusion on the agenda of the Faculty Association meeing in November, 2004.

Discussion continued regarding the material included in the Faculty Handbook which explains the process of implementing the "ISQs." Changes were approved to reflect current practice and the forms currently in use. This item will be forwarded for inclusion on the agenda of the Faculty Association meeting in November, 2004.

The Committee decided to address the revision of the Faculty Handbook statement on Misconduct in Scientific Research and/or Scholarly Activity at its October, 2004, meeting. Judy Solano will circulate her proposed draft of this statement prior to the October meeting.
