The meeting was called to order at 12:58PM (following luncheon, announcements, and introductions).

Introduction of Guests: Judy Solano introduced guests (see above) to the Executive Committee.
   
Welcome to Officers and New Chairs : Judy Solano welcomed officers and chairs; encouraged participation in both the Executive Committee and Faculty Association meetings.
   
Demonstration of UNF Faculty Association web page by Cindy Chin and Ben Bloch.

Approval of Minutes:
The minutes of the 8/17/04 meeting were approved as posted on the website.

Announcements:

Convocation will be October 15 at 10:00 a.m.
 
Old Business:
Since the September meeting of the Faculty Association was cancelled due to Hurricane Frances, the agenda items from September will be carried forward. Additional agenda items will be approved today.
 
New Business
I.    STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
  Academic Programs Committee - Lisa Jamba-Joyner
  Jennifer Kane speaking for Lisa Jamba-Joyner presented one item: FA 04-21, (Honors Program), and an information item, APC 2 (College of Computing, Engineering and Construction). There were no questions; these items will be placed on the agenda.

Academic Standards Committee - John Cummings
Chip Klostermeyer reported for John Cummings. The first meeting of the year will be held Monday, 9/27/04.

  Adjunct Affairs Committee - Russ Turney
  Russ Turney reported that a virtual meeting will be held next week (week of 9/27/04)
  -
  Budget Advisory Committee - Paul Mason
  Paul Mason reported that the BAC would conduct a Salary Equity Analysis. Peer Schools and schools similar to what we aspire to be will be surveyed. Stratified samples by discipline will be obtained. Judy Solano suggested that the committee obtain a copy of a recent salary study conducted by the College of Arts and Sciences. Paul Mason agreed.

  Campus Technology Committee - Katharine Brown
 
Next meeting: 9/23. The committee is focusing on equipping the newly designated technology enhanced classrooms. Computing Services has purchased and is implementing Tumbleweed®, an anti-spam product. The product is currently being tested, and is expected to be rolled out soon.
  -
  Faculty Affairs Committee - Elinor Scheirer
  Met 9/16/04; Elinor Sheirer and Kathy Cohen will serve as co-chairs. Will present two agenda items for November meeting: clarification of statement re: student evaluation and clarification of process for teaching awards. The committee will also address the processes by which accusations of faculty misconduct are handled.

  Faculty Enhancement Committee - Russell Mays
  Russell Mays reported the committee is committed to meeting needs of the faculty at-large.
  -
  Nominations and Elections Committee - Barbara Olinzock
  Barbara Olinzock introduced one information item concerning nominations to the Nominations and Elections Committee. Five positions will need to be filled for January, 2005. The Election will be conducted in November.
  -
  Promotion and Tenure Committee - Kathaleen Bloom
 

No report. Meetings will begin in January.

  Research Committee - David Lambert
 
David Lambert reported that committee would focus on Summer Research/Scholarship applications. Next meeting: October 11, applications will be distributed to reviewers at this meeting. Participation as an external reviewer is encouraged.
  -
  Strategic Planning Committee - Steven Williamson
  Steven Williamson reported that the committee will meet tomorrow (9/22/04); a new chair will be selected at that time.
  -
Support Services Committee - Rama Rao
  Rama Rao reported that an organizational meeting was held last Thursday (9/16/04); the next meeting is scheduled for 10/5/04
  -
  Executive Committee - Steve Shapiro
 

Steve Shapiro reported that the Executive Committee will meet 10/19/04, at 12:15 p.m. in 11/1327

II. Association President - Judy Solano
  Judy Solano reviewed the status of the Resolution (FA 04-17) to be discussed at the October Faculty Association Meeting. UFF stated they would file an Unfair Labor Practice charge if the item remained on the agenda. Mr. Delaney declined to ask the Faculty Association to remove the item from the Agenda. When the resolution is discussed at Faculty Association meeting, members of the management team (Deans, Chairs, Directors, etc) are encouraged to abstain from voting on the item.

III.  Adjournment & Next Meeting
 

The next Faculty Association meeting will be held 10/7/2004 at 12:15 in Building 9, Room 1421.

The next Executive Committee meeting will be held 10/19/2004 at 12:15 PM in 11/1327.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:21 PM.
