The meeting was called to order at 12:24 PM.

Members Present: Kathy Bloom,Cathy Cavanaugh, Kathleen Cohen, Joyce Jones,
Jennifer Kane, Chip Klostermeyer, David Lambert, Russell Mays,
Lee Richardson, Len Roberson, Kathy Robinson, Steve Shapiro,
and Judy Solano

Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the June meeting were approved as posted on the website.

New Business
I.    STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
  Academic Programs Committee - Len Roberson
  Len Roberson reported that the committee has three agenda items and three information items for the next association meeting. The College of Arts and Sciences has a package of APC forms for approval. A question was raised about the need for new faculty to staff the new World Languages courses, and Len said no new faculty are needed because the courses are changing from special topics to permanent courses. The College of Education and Human Services and the College of Health have APC forms for approval. Judy Solano asked about adding a note in the agenda packet indicating where further information was available on new programs. The programs seeking approval will be checked and the note added if necessary before the packets are printed. The committee's information items relate to the special topics course policy, the course outline needed for APC requests, and new APC forms.

Academic Standards Committee - Chip Klostermeyer
  Chip Klostermeyer asked whether the provost had approved the committee's item from the last meeting. The items related to improving record-keeping for student appeals. Cindy Chin said the item was approved and it appears on the web. Judy Solano said she has spent several days in communication with administration on the item. Chip said the committee has selected a new acting chair, and the committee plans to work on updating the language in appeals policies in cooperation with general counsel.

  Adjunct Affairs Committee - Lee Richardson
  Lee Richardson reported that the committee has submitted its annual report.

  Budget Advisory Committee - Joyce Jones
  Joyce Jones said the committee has collected data and is going to analyze the data this coming semester.

  Campus Technology Committee -

  Faculty Affairs Committee -
  No report.

  Faculty Enhancement Committee - Russell Mays
  Russell Mays reported that the committee is planning activities to support the Office of Faculty Enhancement and is gathering information for its upcoming work.

  Nominations and Elections Committee -
  No report.

  Promotion and Tenure Committee - Kathy Bloom

  Research Committee - David Lambert
 
David Lambert reported that the committee is reviewing summer scholarship applications and will seek outside reviewers. Judy Solano said she has recommended that the committee chair be part of the search committee for the position of Director of Sponsored Research.

  Strategic Planning Committee - Steve Shapiro
  Steve Shapiro said the committee is seeking greater faculty involvement in the planning process.

Support Services Committee -
  No report.

  Executive Committee - Steve Shapiro
 

Steve Shapiro reported that the Executive Committee will meet September 21 at 12:15 PM.

II. Association President - Judy Solano
  Judy Solano presented a resolution for the committee to consider placing on the September agenda. The resolution relates to union contract negotiations. Steve Shapiro said he is concerned about how the negotiation process is going, and about the level of interest of faculty in the process. Kathy Robinson asked about the ways that faculty can be informed because it seems we are not hearing all sides. Judy Solano said there are no limits on what faculty can say to each other. More faculty need to be involved in the decision making process. The resolution may need stronger or more specific language in support of Faculty Association. Joyce Jones suggested an added phrase. There was an intense discussion and the motion passed unanimously.

III.  Adjournment & Next Meeting
 

The next Faculty Association meeting will be held September 2 at 12:15 in Building 9, Room 1421.

The next Executive Committee meeting will be held September 21 at 12:15 PM in 11/1327.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:10 PM.
