SPAM / Tumbleweed Anti-SPAM project. |
| |
Cathy relayed a concern from her college that spammers get faculty email addresses from the university website, and at some other universities it is not easy to get a faculty member's email address. We should discuss with ITS the possibilities of making faculty email addresses less available on the university website, or to find out whether such steps are planned with the new alias system. A "spam status" update might be appreciated by faculty, so everyone is aware of the work being done by many people to address the problem--maybe an information item in a FA agenda. |
| |
|
| |
Katharine met with Wendy Brezin (ITS) to discuss these matters and the timeline for Tumbleweed rollout. Faculty e-mail addresses are no longer available on the web, but lists propagated in the past are still being used to send SPAM. The "friendly" format of our e-mail addresses also makes us vulnerable to spammers guessing addresses from the phone list available externally. The internal phone directory is only protected if no UNF faculty, staff or student submits it to a spammer. |

|
| |
Rollout for Tumbleweed campus-wide will occur later this term or early next term.
Ask ITS to put an update in Campus Update and to include links for more information.

Availability of Banner training for nine month employees was submitted for discussion by Paul. This item was postponed from last meeting. Nine month employees wanting to receive training to access grant/sponsored research accounts on Banner Finance had to come in during their unpaid summer months. Training was not available before the Spring term ended. It was noted more training has been scheduled year-round so these people can get trained. Schedules are posted in Campus Update and on the Wings site: http://www.unf.edu/unfwings. |

New Faculty Orientation was held on Aug 20. Katharine sent a note to John Sharp on 7/9 to encourage the C-Techs to get involved in this event as it was mentioned as an appropriate "first contact" opportunity for them. Approximately 40 faculty attended. CIRT and OFE gave a presentation but no representative from ITS was on the agenda. |

Template for standardized classroom technology documentation.
|
| |
Revisions from last month were made to the draft and forwarded to John Sharp for C-Tech review on July 7. No comments have been received. A follow-up note with the revised document will be sent again with a copy to CTC members. |

Campus Audio Visual, ITS. |
| |
Dale brought forth examples of two faculty, on two separate occasions each, where ITS/CVA failed to appear with classroom-necessary equipment. Katharine will forward these issues to John Sharp, ITS.
It was suggested our committee look to the issues of staffing and organization for the increased load for the IT people, understanding they work hard and want to do their jobs well.
