Minutes of Meeting RESEARCH COMMITTEE October 10, 2000 11:00 @ Bldg. 42/3136 MEMBERS PRESENT: Cindy Nyquist-Battie,
Diane Kaslazkus, Jim Collum, It was decided that the November meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 7 at 11:00 am in 42/3136 (same venue). The agenda for that meeting will be to finalize the processes for the research summer grant proposals that will be received later that month. Tom Serwatka will be contacted to ask for volunteers (based on past grant award recipients) for prospective reviewers so that we have an adequate pool of reviewers when the grants are received. After the October 31 deadline, Tom will contact Cheryl as Chair to notify the committee about the total number of grants and in the subtotals for the four areas to review. It was also suggested that we provide feedback the first week in January in order to have more time to read and rank the proposals. Cindy Nyquist Battie informed us that there is no section five. Cheryl will take the key findings of the research survey to the executive committee next week and Cindy Nyquist Battie will provide a verbal report at the next Faculty Association meeting on November 2 at 12:15. The committee then identified the salient points for the verbal report: 92/420 surveys (22%) response rate. The major findings are that: 1.
Approximately 52% of the faculty respondents are dissatisfied or 2.
However, 53% of the respondents now perceive that the research 3. 88% of the respondents perceive teaching loads to be a barrier to research. 4. 86% indicated that service requirements/loads were a barrier to research. 5. 42% of the respondents have had external funding in the last five years. The
five largest discrepancies between what faculty respondents consider to
be 1. Release time for research 2. Library journals 3. Internal summer support 4. Student assistant funding 5. Research related travel funding
